airmailed Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 anyone know of a retail supplier of smd sockets? i only just found out that they exist, i think it'd be easier for me to use these for my mbfm, maybe even cheaper than buying a tempco soldering iron... i think ideally i'd like some that had dip style pins for soldering into the board Quote
Jimi Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 SMD sockets? Kinda defeats some of the purpose really... :)I've never really seen them used and had some time in board manufacture with loads of SMD projects....the only SMD style sockets I can remember using were on larger programmable PLCC style chips.Hmmm.... good luck with your search. Try here: http://www.globalsources.com/manufacturers/SMD-Socket.html Quote
moebius Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 I sort of agree with Jimi. There are PLCC sockets, but I haven't seen any for SOICs. Some "programming sockets" are available, but those are probably very expensive. Anyway, adapter PCBs for SMD components are made, that have DIP pins.. Can't remember the "cheap source" for those, at the moment.Bye, Moebius Quote
airmailed Posted September 2, 2005 Author Report Posted September 2, 2005 thanks guys, i checked that page before posting but didn't get very far, one of the chips on an old hard drive i have is socketed... seems like a nice easy solution... looks like a cheap tempco iron at some point, nevermind eh ;-) Quote
