anyone know of a retail supplier of smd sockets? i only just found out that they exist, i think it'd be easier for me to use these for my mbfm, maybe even cheaper than buying a tempco soldering iron... i think ideally i'd like some that had dip style pins for soldering into the board

I sort of agree with Jimi.

There are PLCC sockets, but I haven't seen any for SOICs. Some "programming sockets" are available, but those are probably very expensive. Anyway, adapter PCBs for SMD components are made, that have DIP pins.. Can't remember the "cheap source" for those, at the moment.

thanks guys, i checked that page before posting but didn't get very far, one of the chips on an old hard drive i have is socketed... seems like a nice easy solution... looks like a cheap tempco iron at some point, nevermind eh ;-)
