Hi there!

I've been trying for a couple of days to solve this problem, with no luck so far:

I build the JDM gizmo on vectorboard, every test/voltage measurement checks out fine except

when i click "Enable Data Out" ... Nothing happens.

I've checked every damn connection systematically atleast couple of times  :-/

Any suggestions as to what to look out for would be very welcome :)

I cannot say I had the same problem as you, but I can ofcoure make some suggestions to what the problem could be.

1) you made some construction error (again just to make sure even more)

try drawing exactly what you see on the vector board and compare it to the schematic

also use a multimeter to check the resistance on all yur soldiered pads, just to make sure everything is connected

also check if there's no short circuits

2) broken wire

check the resistance between your connector and the vectorboard...maybe your prog cable is busted?

3) Windows sucks

Maybe for some reason Windows is blocking your incoming data or is blocking IC prog?

4) You blew up yur serial port?

you probably checked all of this...but just to make sure?..:)

my recomendation would be to build a PCB for this project.  They are REALLY REALLY easy to make and you will have a higher chance of success if you build it on a PCB.  For instructions on how to build your own PCB just click this link below:

http://watt.lab.eese.bee.qut.edu.au/~n4403584/pcb.htm

my next recomendation would be to go back and double check your connections again.  A large % of the time a faulty circuit is due to incorrect connections and/or loose solder joints not making good connection.

hope it helps some,

Shawn
