Core Midi Port Question

Just recently got in all my parts from SmashTV and everything is going very smoothly so far.  I want to ask before I make a crucial error though... J12 and J13 (the three pins under the Midi ports) are only if I were to panel mount the ports right?  And in that case, I can just leave those alone and place the Midi ports right on top of them right?

Thanks.

Hi thetimboroni,

not sure what you mean with:

... J12 and J13 (the three pins under the Midi ports)

J12 and J13 are the MIDI ports.

J12 3 MIDI OUT port. See the schematic' date=' how to connect a MIDI socket to this port.

J13 3 MIDI IN port. See the schematic, how to connect a MIDI socket to this port.

It is recommended that you get yourself some plugs (Platinensteckverbinder: http://www.reichelt.de/?ARTIKEL=PS%2025%2F2G%20BR ), that you simply attach to these pins. So you can run your box without case and if your case is ready, just unplug, put the cable through the holes and re-plug...

hope I got your question right,

best regards,

Michael

i think he means on the Smash boards, there is a pcb-mount midi socket AND a three pin header (for remote sockets). in answer to your question timboroni: yes it's fine to place the pcb mounted sockets over the top. if you follow the traces, you can see that the pins on the three pin header connect to the midi socket.
