mat_s Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Hi all, i am back with another question. thanks for all the help so far :)i am looking at the c64 optimized psu. some people use a heatsink on the regulator. but on some pictures, some people don't.what's the deal there. is the thing getting hot ? shall i order a heatsink or is it good without ?i am making a fairly simple sidBox: a 2x20 lcd, 1 core, 1 sid, 6 buttons, 1 encoder. and maybe later one more sid and 4 more encoders.thank you :) Quote
Wilba Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 The 7809 that regulates the 9v AC doesn't need a heatsink, mine doesn't have one and it doesn't get that hot as the input voltage is 11.3v (and I'm powering 8 SIDs from one 7809!). So you definately would not need one, the current draw for one SID is so low, and the input voltage isn't that much higher so there's not much power being turned into heat. Quote
