    jjonas!!  That is fantastic!  I went through the guide last night and yep, its all pretty simple (now I understand it).

     

    I took my mb6582 knowledge onto the sammichFM and got that working also.

  2. Wavetable Guide?

    Hi all

     

    Im a long term mb6582 user and, recently got a SammichFB (and Seq v4).  Despite this, I have never worked out the wavetables.

     

    Is there a very simple step-by-step guide anywhere for thicko's like me?

     

    On the sammichFM for example, I am yet to even make one controllable wavetable change..

    Just noticed this util..  Looks very interesting.

     

    Currently cant get it to makes changes - the Send Request button resets values to some preset state and the CC# always jumps back to 21: OP2 Multplier.  Am I doing something stupid?

     

    I have sound and can change patches using the tool so I have connectivity..

  8. Perspex Window - where to buy? (mb6582)

    Hi – I have notice that some of your build have very sexy perspex windows over the LCD, making them look very pro..  Where do people get these from?

     

    Worst case, Im going to just get some perspex and clue to the underside – it wont look as good but better than nothing..

  9. Encoder Replacement - damaged my tracking?

    HI all - I repaired the tracking at weekend.  It was pretty easy.  I also installed all the new knobs so now have a fully working mb6582!

     

    It never ceases to amaze me how good this thing sounds.  I have lots of high end synths (PEK / SunSyn / JP4 / Korg 800dv / etc etc) yet everything I turn on the MB, it just runs a mockery over my other stuff...

     

    Definitely my desert island synth...

    Thanks for the replies.  What I still don’t understand is:

     

    • Some of the encoders only appear to have 2 pins doing anything (looking at the tracks on the underside).
    • Some encoders use all 3 pins
    • All the encoders seem to have a earthing track (looking on the topside) but, why do ALL the pins need to be earthed?  Would it have been okay to just earth the encoder once, maybe via the body?

     

    Im asking this question as it helps me understand why I need to fix the 3 or so earthing track breaks Ive made.  My other approach is to just try it and see..

     

    Im not very good at this stuff so appologies if these are dumb questions..

    To properly remove malfunctioning encoders, it is recommended to cut all three (or more) pins with wire cutters on the top side of the PCB, then heat the backside pins one by one with the soldering iron and use a desoldering pump from the frontside to suck through the pin and solder remains.

    Hi all

     

    I decided to replace all my encoders as 5 or so were playing up (should have just replaced the duff ones!).  So, in 2 or 3 places I seem to have lifted the red tracking on the topside of the PCB:

     

     

    Silly question but: does this matter?  Looking on the underside, I can see the tracking is all fine and this seems to be the tracking that goes off to ribbon connecters etc.  What is the red tracking on the topside of the PCB?  Do I need to repair it?

    UPDATE: the red topside tracking looks like it is Ground which is run to each of the 3 encoder pins.  So I guess the question is: will the encoders till work if one of the pin ground is missing but the others are intack?

  15. Alpha Encoders – are they cheap rubbish? (MB6582)

    Have you removed the detention of the encoders? (See )

    If you have done it, there might not be enough pressure on the metal lid - you have to bend it towards the encoder wheel afterwards to avoid bad contacts.

    Yeah, I did remove the indents on CutOff and Res but some of my other encoders are also erratic.

     

    I have ordered a full set of Alpha replacements and will DEFO not be removing the indents as don’t want to take the risk again.

     

    Btw, what are the recommended non-indented encoder?  I have been through the archives but all the part numbers/suggestions seem to be indented.

    Hey Peter - I cant be sure my current ones are the same part number as yours, but they are defo "Alpha".  So yeah, I have just ordered 20 new ones (same as yours) but from jameco in the US as £35 to my door rather than £55 from mouser!!

     

    Anyway, I don't know the history of my MB so hopefully once I swap them out, they will remain rock solid for years to come.  Im getting 5 spare plus, Im going to keep the non-faulty existing ones as a absolute last resource..

  20. Alpha Encoders – are they cheap rubbish? (MB6582)

    Hi all

     

    5+ of my MB6582 encoders are very flaky.  I got the MB6582 second hand so can’t be sure how old it is but either way, it’s a bit rubbish that 1/3 of the encoders should fail within the first 5 years.

     

    No worries, ill replace them (got a post in the group buy forum if anyone is interested).  I’m going to order the recommended Alpha dials from Mouser.com

     

    Alpha RE160F-40E3-20A-24P

     

    So, last night I removed one of my encoders.  I was hoping my encoders were inferior/cheap encoders however, to my surprise, my existing encoders are also made my Alpha(!).  I can’t see a part number so I can only assume they are the same part as the ones I’m about to re-order.

     

    Question: are these Alpha encoders cheap/rubbish?  Is it normal for 1/3 to fail in the first 5 years?  If so, is there a superior encoder I can use?

     

    If I replace all 15 encoders, I was kind of hoping they would then be good for life, not just a few years…

    A few of my MB6582 encoders are playing up so going to replace all 15 of them.  Mouser.com are currently out of stock until 17th March so will place an order that weekend.  In the meantime, please contact me if you would like some encoders for the MB6582.

    1. Does anyone have 5 or more they can sell me? Or,

  23. MB SID with patchbay -> semi-modular Korg MS-Style Synth?

    What would they do that the 6 internal LFO's and 2 internal EG's(DADSR with separate curve parameter for the A D and R steps) can't do?

    I can understand that you want to go the modular route, but after much research I've not found a reason to add CV in to the MBSID.

    I just read the thread but I also cannot see the attraction of adding CV. I have only had a MB6582 for about 2 months but, I always learn my synths inside and out – whilst the MB6582 is fantastic, if I had to criticize it would be that it is too complicated. I own a truck load of synths (and have sold even more) and not many synths can compare to the flexibility of a MB6582 – it’s power is literally mind boggling!!

    So, why would we need more flexibility?! Maybe this is just an exercise that a DIYer finds attractive rather than being particularly musically useful?

    But either way, its an interesting conversation..

    Hi Roger – welcome.

    I am also a new MB6581 user and have come from a HardSID 4U background. I loved the HardSID and it features in most our tracks over the last 5 years. However, since day 1 it has never worked properly if you try to access more than 1 SID at a time. Im now a pretty happy MB user.

    Im only jumping in on your thread as you mention the HardSID :yes:
