  1. Thanks for help, but never mind. I was testing the board again and for some reason the smoke came from 2200uF capacitor, rectifier bulged before I had time to unplug it. I can't do anything until I replace said parts. I assume there is some problem with power supply part, but i amunable to test it before the trip to RadioShack.
  2. I have suspected an optocoupler as well but after I pulled it out and performed the test as per http://www.ucapps.de/howtodebug/mbhp_core_opto_test.gif from midi troubleshooting page and it worked. I was getting 5.06 V. By the way, measured with my digital multimeter all voltages of the core were 5.06V.
  3. Thanks for an answer. Yes I did set ID according to the sticker. In fact I suspected a missprogramed PIC so I begun to change ID in MIOS studio and query it starting with 0 and ending on 20. I downloaded MIOS studio yesterday. The core never worked before. LCD shows row of black rectangles in the upper row.
  4. I am on the end of the rope. I have returned to the old SmashTv V2 core with PIC18f452. At first I had to replace rectifier. (The old one didn't work.) I connected it to MIOS studio - nothing. I started all recommended troubleshooting checks they all passed. All voltages and all checks using LEDs from "MIDI Interface Troubleshooting Guide" went OK but there is nothing in MIDI in window of MIOS studio. I have ElCheapo USB Midi cable from ebay like this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-IN-OUT-MIDI-Interface-Cable-Converter-PC-to-Music-Keyboard-Adapter-Cord-atp-/180888881833?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1dd14aa9) that passes loop-back test (I made a cable from 2 MIDI sockets) The MIDI in light flashes when core is connected to it. There are no shorts on PCB (checked with X10 magnifier.) I attempted to connect to the core with MBHP_LTC module with the same negative result. What next?
