["Virtual  bow" idea]

Hi! i've got an idea for a MIOS feature, that i believe would be a very expressive and useful thing. Unfortunatly i don't know a word of Assembler, so i thought i'd post the concept here in case anyone wants to make it themselves.

I thought it would bee cool to make one or several sliders on a Midibox to work like a bow (u know, the thing you use on a violin). In other words, by pulling the slider back and forth you generate MIDI values (KeyDown, KeyRelease and in between that some CC value like Volume). If you pull the slider slowly, it generates a low CC value and so on.

I guess you hardcore coders have thought out how you should code this already, but here's my idea of how the application could work like:

1. Constantly measure the value from the slider.

2. If the slider moves, send a KeyPress value and calculate the difference from the last position and output the result as a CC value. Larger difference -> higher value.

3. If the slider changes direction, insert a KeyRelease value, a new Keypress value and so on.

4. If the slider stops (and stays still for, say, 25milliseconds, so that there is no doubt that the slider really has stopped), insert KeyRelease and set CC to zero.

I guess this is kind of the same concept that is used by the scratching programs out there, but this thingy would be a nice tool if you use, say, a Nord Modular and could assign the slider to a filter, volume, phaser or whatever.

Can this be done as a MIOS application? Does it seem practical/dumb?

I your'e lucky you might run into some rubber buttons from some kind of electronics (like the ones on cellular phones). Then you might be able to take just the rubber pice, maybe remove any text on it with alcohol or something and then put it on top of the tact switches. I'm not saying that cellphone buttons are good on midiboxes, but i've seen other applications use these type of buttons too.

I'll get back if i find a better example.

I agree.

As for the logo: OK, it's not totally geometrically correct, Germany is not in the center, the correct CMYK/RGB/Pantone colours are not defined and there are no rules defined for how to apply the logo on a car etc (see http://www.johanolsson.net/post/03.pdf and http://www.johanolsson.net/post/02.pdf for examples of such rules, it's in Swedish but you'll get the point). I made some logos before and it's a long, hard work with a result that hardly never is popular with everyone.

I guess there are several professionals in this forum who could make a business-class tiptop logo. Or we could pay 5,000 Euro and let a design firm do it for us. ;) But since this is a DIY site, i don't think that is what matters.

It seems to me that rasOfir has put some work into the logo, and i think it's nice. I sure give you cred for it, ras!!!  8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

But sure, it would be nice to see more graphic designs, like sketches and concepts for Midiboxes, for inspiration etc.

Ah, du har rätt. Laminatet är till för att ritas på med en tuschpenna... iofs hög manlighetsfaktor att rita dit kretsbanor för 16 potentiometrar för hand, utan linjal... ;D

[Vad exakt behöver man...?]

Om man vill göra det enkelt för sig kan man använda MIOS som beskrivs här på sajten. Det är ett litet operativsystem som har en grundsystem (s.k. Bootstrap Loader) som bara behöver brännas en gång med en JDM-brännare. Sedan använder man MIDI för att lägga in själva MIOS och en applikation som passar den pryl man har byggt, t.ex. Midibox64. Detta gör att man bara behöver JDM-brännaren en gång, sen klarar man sig med en dator, ett specialprogram och en MIDI-kabel.

Om man vill kan man skicka sin PIC till Thorsten i Tyskland så bränner han in Bootstrap Loadern, det enda han vill ha är cash för portot tillbaks till Sverige. Jag gjorde det och det funkade fint, och så slapp jag bygga en JDM :)

Det finns ett gäng färdiga program under MIOS - > Download här till vänster, som man kan använda till de vanligaste MIDI-grejorna här på sajten. För att skicka data via MIDI kan man t.ex. använda MIDI-OX som är gratis och finns här: http://www.midiox.com.

Låter som en hårig pryl! 8) Särskilt lådan låter häftigt. Jag tänker själv göra en egen låda med träsidor. Har inte bestämt om jag ska använda Lazertran eller testa vanlig självhäftande matt plastfilm (Matton har tydligen nån som är väldigt tunn, har dock inte sett den själv.)

Vart går du för att laserskära fronten nånstans, och är det dyrt? Jag bor i Göteborg så om det finns ett billigt ställe här så vore det kul.

Etsar du kretskort själv hemma, eller på en skola e.d.? Är det krångligt?

Jag såg den här länken här på forumet: http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/ribbon/ribbon.htm om en kille som bygger en egen ribboncontroller. Tänkte att det vore ballt att ha på min kommande MB.

Killen som har hemsidan tipsar om att använda "resistive webbing" som material för själva bandet. Är det nån som vet var man hittar sånt i Sverige? Såg nåt liknande i Elfa, men det kostade (inte oväntat) mucho money...
