  1. hi everyone..

i am about halfway finished with the packing, the chips did not come in tubes, but in a plastic strip (like pills almost).. i have wrapped these strips in antistatic bags, then put this in a 35mm film container.. with foam sometimes.. then in a padded envelope.. i have been very careful, i think this will be fine (as long as there are no really careless customs inspectors).. i am hoping to send the chips by the weekend

if you get the wrong amount of chips, please pm me.. if you have too many then it may mean someone else does not have enough.. i think i have got it right though ;-)

    best wishes

  2. hey smash...

i'm looking forward to a nice solder masked board for the opl3 module ;-).. should make soldering the smds easier... that said i'm not in a major rush.. but if you make them i'll buy one certainly..

  3. hi martin

i ordered the chips yesterday, they have already been shipped, should be with me in 5-7 days..

i'll send them out after that...

i'm planning to build a dual sid and at least one (probably only one) midibox fm.. (i think i'm waiting for one of smashs solder masked boards for that one... should make soldering the smd chips much easier)

i've ordered 2 of ken stones steiner vcf boards so i'm planning to have at least one analogue filter in the fm, seems a waste to have that +-12v supply in there only for one board ;-)

i'm interested in making sequencers.. i've been making them in pure data (nice and easy that way), i started with random note generators and have progessed to step sequencers, some play from a 16 step sequnce in random order, lately i've made one which has a set of sounds.. e.g 3 kicks 4 snares 4 hats + 5 spaces, which can be shuffled with a button to create new patterns, lots of fun and i think it's teaching me a little about how to program computers with a text language

  4. hi thorsten..

would you say a little about how you wired up the led matrix? (i looked at the photo but it wasn't totally clear to me from that).. it looks to me like a wire soldered to each led in the row.. is it as simple as that?

i had been thinking of other ways to do this since seeing the sid photos.. i wondered about using stripboard (with the anode or cathode poked into each row..) thinking about it now, it seems like this method would need 2 layers of board.. or stripboard cut into very fine strips ;-)

  5. if it is the forum generating most traffic then i guess that everyone can help by keeping forum activity to the minimum over the next few days, maybe just visiting once a day or so to check messages

this is not a long term solution but might help keep the site up and running while a new home for it is being found

i remember reading on a hosts site that yabb and other forum software does work a server very very hard...

maybe someone here works for a big company or university that can host the forum on their servers ;-)

(any volunteers? anyone with a basement full of computers and a t1 line?)

i like the forum a lot so the alternatives are not very attractive to me (mailing lists, newsgroups etc.) though places like yahoo groups look quite good..

regarding web hosts, yes, some can be very unreliable, i think the main thing is to pay monthly if you can, or at least to avoid paying a lot up front (in case the company and the website disappears, which happens sometimes)

  6. hi everyone...

i have the quote for delivery, i now need to calculate the costs of postage etc. and chase fedex about if they have any exotic hidden fees they wish to land us with once the parcel reaches the uk..

once i have all the info i will pm everyone about how much to pay etc.

the order is still open is anyone else wants to join, i will post on the forum (and probably modify the first post) once the order is closed.

i'm thinking to send the bigger amounts (3 and 4 sets) in the bug trays the chips come in, for the smaller amounts i am thinking to pack the chips carefully in antistatic bags then put that package inside a 35mm film container.. can anyone see any problems with doing that?

  7. thanks everyone.. we definitely have enough people now..

yes d2k... yacs on their own is ok too..  i'll put you down for one.. i don't have the enthusiasm for transatlantic phone calls right at this moment which means there is still a chance if anyone else wants to take part.. i'll phone the company tomorrow and find out the nature of the shipping costs and federal expresses science fiction style duty charge (if there is one..) i should be in a position to frighten you all to death with the costs within the next couple of days.. ;-)

    bye for now

    all the best

  8. yes indeed roger... (and yes i'll make sure the final price is researched fully before we go ahead)

    34 it is..  anyone else?

i've been plotting to put lots of analog filters in my midibox fm.. maybe 4 different ones.. with bypass switches and input sockets so that external signals can be run through them as well..

also thinking about delay based on the princeton 2399 chip but that might be getting too ambitious.. it accepts cv input so might be fun

i've been playing with the software version of the nord g2 (free from the clavia website) which allows delay times and feedback to be modulated via the lfo's etc.. makes for some very strange sounds

    best wishes
