  1. No luck yet. Good idea about glueing a 4mm shaft in. i might try and take apart an encoder with a 6mm plastic shaft, put it in a drill and kind of make a makeshift lathe and machine it down. Farnell now stock mentor knobs with and without an indicator that will fit 6mm shafts. They are by far the best i've found so far.
  2. Hi, Does any one know where to buy rotary pots and encoders with 4mm shaft? I've been searching the internet all week and cant find them anywhere in the UK. I think Reichelt do some. But as im not buying enything else from them and because of the minimum order quantity this is'nt an option.
  3. Thank you I just realised that regulators regulate the current as well as power. Now i can finish designing and start building :-)
  4. I have an firewire audiophile soundcard that i am going to take out of the casing and put inside my new box. I want to reduce the amount of equipment and cables i carry around with me. This way i would only have a laptop, 1 midibox, 2 power leads, 1 firewire cable and 1 phono cable.
  5. I am currently designing my next midibox and intend to build a sound card into it. As the soundcard is firewire and my laptop does not supply power via firewire, i need two power supplies on the midibox. one to the core and one to the sound card. How do i supply both of these with power with one supply? they both require different voltages and different currents. What size supply would i need (is it as simple as added the two together and buying a PSU larger enough)? How do i control the current? The soundcard is 12V 1A The core would be about 9V 500mA
  6. Good evening all I'm having trouble compiling a C code. When I run the make file I get this message 'Can't open perl script "tools\mkmk.pl": No such file or directory Bad command or file name' The tools folder and mkmk.pl file are there in the same folder as the rest of my main.c files etc. I have all the programs needed installed (perl, sdcc and gnupils) as described on the c interface page. Why is it not working?
  7. I finaly got new pic's and have programmed them with the broccoli burner. I Not sure what i did to kill 2 pic's, but I know now to test every pot and button before even thinking about putting the pic into its socket and turning the box on. Thank you Alex for pointing me in the right direction. Being impatient did'nt really get me anywhere. I still had to order some pic's anyway. Still at least I've learned a bit more and know not what to do next time.
  8. I finally got the lcd to work.I got my pic's today and it all works fine. I think the lcd will not work unless a midi box application is loaded. I think this was probably why i could'nt get it to work before.
  9. Ive finaly got hold of a data sheet for the SN102 94V0. The pinning is standard. (the same as the wiring diagram on the lcd page) i'm not sure why i cound'nt get it to work though. hopefully i'll get my new pic's soon and i can get it working. If any one wants a copy of the data sheet i will email it to them.
  10. I bought them from votis. the pot is wired correctly. its extactly the same as the other 30 connected to the ain, which all work fine. I'm going to order some more pic's. but in the mean time i'm going to check the core module and ain over.
  11. Ive spent the last 3 months building my midibox to work. plus upto 2 months before this researching electronics because i have no experience. i've just fryed a pic and and want a replacement quickley as i've got this week of work before i start a new job. So please don't get angry with me. Besides forums are here to help are they not? I did have a look at the thread on the broccolli burner but dismissed it a. because it is an old thread from before the pic burner was released. so i assume that the pic burner would be a better. b. because i considered this a bit experimental for my capabilities. yes it is very simple to build but i don't want to end up frying more pic's as i really don't have much spare time or money. Which is why im building a midibox and not buying an Allen and heath zone 92 or pioneer djm800 Im probably wrong i'll give the broccolli burner a closer look.
  12. There is no makers name just a part code - KL SN102 94V-0
  13. HI, I want to make a pic burner but dont want to wait for a pcb through the post (this normaly takes a couple of weeks) and dont want to buy copper clad boards etc. just for 1 pcb. Can any one give me anymore info on how to make one on strip board? Staring at the photo of the one on the PIC burner page and trying to work it out from the schematic might just send me a little mad. A picture of the back would be helpfull
  14. cheers smash i dont think the lcd i have is compatible. It would help if i could find some kind of data sheet for it. the pins seem to be straight forward they are numbered on the pcb.
  15. I got a new pic and everything was working fine. I started to connect up my modules. but there was a problem straight away. one of the pots was not working correctly. there was power to it but no output. if i turned the pot it sometimes reset the core. i disconnected the pot and tested it ,it was fine. it seems there is a problem with the ain. strange as i have not touched any of the wiring and all the pots worked fine before. Before i had a chance to find the problem my new pic seems to have died exatly as the last one. I cannot find any short curcuits any where all voltages seem to be ok most of the time. i regulary check the supply voltage at several points. sometimes the core seems to drain alot of power (if i have 7 volts supply this normaly what i read at j1 of the core. sometimes will only be 4 or less). The regulator also seems to get very hot. Can anyone please help me?
  16. Has anyone used a KL SN102 94V-0 LCD screen? i cant find a data sheet anywhere. I have wired it up the same as the wiring diagram but only the backlight comes on and mios studio shuts down. when i disconnect the lcd the core module acts as normal and mios studio does'nt shut down. Is this screen compatable with a midi box?
  17. checked the crystal was connected correctly and resoldered it. still nothing. I think i may by a new pic and core module.
  18. I finally got around to do the midi i/o check last night. the check worked fine. there is no problem. What else could it be?
  19. just finished moving house so its time to start tinkering with my midi box again. But its dead! MIOS is not receiving anything from the PIC anymore. There is power to the core and a connections appear to fine. I have checked everything with a multimeter. I checked for a feedback loop in MIOS there is'nt one.
  20. Thank you Thorsten. I don't think there is a feedback loop in mios. But i will check. the only connections to anything on the core is power and midi i/o.
  21. hello thorsten yes i have been trying to upload within 2 seconds. could my pic be dead?
  22. illogik, thank you very much for the information. i can not upload mios again. i currently have no modules connected to the core. mios studio keep giving unexpected request messages. no matter what i try to upload.
  23. fantastic got the pots working fine then the buttons. connected the encoders and uploaded the app for midibox64e (i need both encoders and pots i understand from reading the changelog for 64e that this can be done. i wired a second din to the first din with the buttons is this correct? can you chain 2 dins together that are using different types of input?). i've been having serious problems since. the core sent out what looked like a request for information repeatedly and very fast. tryed to reload mios but could only do this after diconnecting all the modules (perhaps there could be a problem with the second din with the encoders). and connected the ain and din with the buttons and uploaded the app for midibox64. but could not get this to work. diconnected all the modules again. and tryed to reload mios. i can not do this. when i turn the box on with mios studio open it receives several timestamp messages and gives out alot of random midi messages. (i assume this is because i do not have the ain connected at the moment). when i turn the box of i get several 'active sensing, stop, timing clock, system reset' messages and sometimes a few midi messages. if i turn on the box for a second time mios studio shuts down, midi ox does the same. when i try and upload mios in mios studio i get a message saying 'recieved unexpected mios sysex message = f0f000007e400001f7 expected = 00007e40000.
  24. just got the midibox64 app uploaded. i downloaded the sysex file from the website again. the copy i was trying to upload must have been corrupted. i'm getting random midi events across all 16 channels. i've only got 1 ain connected up to the core. 31 of the analog inputs are being used and the spare is clamped to ground. should have some pins on the core clamped to ground? what else could be giving out these random midi events? i disconnected the ain from the core earlier but still got the random midi messages
