  1. I have had a couple of tries at getting back my .ini file data.  I have not been able to get very far. :-[

I have used Sysebox (Sep 25 3004) to do a Request Sysex Dump, MIDIO128 Bank.  I get 1590 bytes in I think 6 blocks.  I then save the file.

It doesn't matter if I save it as .sys or .txt, or rename it later.  All I can see is Hieroglyphics.

I can't work out where to find the syx2hex mentioned in the MISO_backup.txt

May I please have some more help? ???

  2. the trick is....u must rename the .zip-file in .jar..doubleklick it.....and it works ;)

That got it. ;)  Thank you.

I don't recall seeing this in any of the instructions.  I have downloaded the zip file a number of times over the last week.  Once I got an error.  Non of them have anytext in the readme.txt file.

  3. Since rebuilding my computer with a new hard drive I have not been able to run MIOS Studio.  I have loaded Java as described and downloaded the zip file.  I am not able to find a .jar file as the instructions describe to start the program.  The readme.txt file in the root directory of the zip download is a blank file.

Is there something simple I have over looked?

I am able to run Sysbox.

    Thank you

  4. Pictures of my system

First there is all the old circuitry and wireing I removed.

    http:

Then there is wireing up the upper keyboard (lower already done)

Next shows the 4x DIN and1x Core for the keyboards.  I do intend to screw them down even though they are unlikely to go anywhere.  The Core will be mounted out of sight under the upper keyboard so the power and Midi cables are easily connected under the front of the console.

    http:

The Midibox gear for the pedals needs to go in a box to tidy it up.

  5. Next stage completed.  ;D

I now have the 2x 61 note keyboards wired in through Midibox (4x DIN's and 1x Core) and using merger function to bring the output of my other Core and 1x DIN card (connected to the 25 note pedal board) through the Midi In port and have the combined Midi messages go through a single Midi to USB adaptor to my computer.

(I have pictures I would like to show you all, however I can't work out how to upload them. ???)

My project will continue.  I have 13 spare DIN contacts plus another DIN card (32) which I intend to set up as combination pistons (5x I think I will set up as tremulant switches).  I am also aware that with custom modification to the MIDI128.hex, it is possible to set up some analogue inputs direct to the Core.  I will experiment to set up 3x analogue inputs to give me 2x swell control and crescendo.

This is all to gain the best I can from Miditzer.

I would also like to say that the kits from Smash were great.  The quality of the PCB's is excellent and all the components are good.  The new DIL header layout for connections is very good and makes the task of connecting literally hundreds of connections as painless as is possible.

  6. I have my 25 note pedal board running tonight.  ;D

I am a very happy Midibox builder.

Thank you to those who helped, and yes it works for those who are contemplating Midibox or have started on their projects.

I have more building to do but now have stage 1 under my belt.

  8. Thank you again.

I need to apologise.  I checked my midio128.ini file, recompiled it with the make syx Pearl function, and uploaded it using Sysexbox.exe.  The merger function now works. ;D

I am not sure if it was MidiOx that didn't work (even though I had set the delay to 750ms) or if I had confused my self with multiple coppies of my midio128.syx file. :o

I do have one more question. ???

I am not using DOUT at all.  Can I delete the DOUT list of commands?

Will this make my system scan any faster? (I havent tested for time delay yet so I am not saying there is a problem)

Do I need to have at least the header line in the .ini file?

If so what script is required?

Thank you again.  This is a very happy Midibox builder. ;D

  9. Thank you for the thoughts Michael. :)

I have tried to download SysExBox but I can’t get the links to work. ???

I am confused with the various items of software. :-\  My CORE came loaded with the boot loader from Smash TV.  It was outputting every 2 seconds.  Then I uploaded MIOS and it only gave an output when it was powered up.  (the documentation says this is right).  Then I up loaded the midio128.syx file from the zip folder “mk_midio128_pic18fâ€.  The unit didn’t function.  I was given advice on the forum that I should have uploaded the main.hex from the zip folder “midio128_v2_1câ€.  Up loading this got the DIN board functioning.

The next step I took was to edit the midio128.ini file with the output codes I wanted from the first 8 DIN contacts.  I ran the Pearl converter and uploaded the resulting midio128.syx file (I did the upload using MidiOx and not SysExBox) This worked.  My edited codes came out from the specified DIN contacts. ;D

Next I could see in the midio128.ini file the section to enable merging of signals on the IN.  I edited the file, ran the Pearl converter and uploaded the .syx file.  The merger functions don’t work. >:(

I have looked through all the .ini files in the “midio128_v2_1c†folder, but cant see where I can enable the “merger†function in any of these, so can’t see how to enable merger function in the main.hex. :'(

I am confused with the difference or uses of the “midio128_v2_1c†files and the “mk_midio128_pic18f†files.  Can someone please explain? ???

Is there a SysExBox program that gives a more user friendly interface to editing the functions of MIDIO128? ???

    Thanks in anticipation,

    Rick.

  10. I have built a CORE and a DIN.  I have MIDI messages comming out of the core and have sucessfully customised MIDI OUT messages to my needs relevant to the wireing of my switch inputs.

I was hoping to be able to connect my Casio keyboard MIDI OUT to the MIDI IN on the CORE, and use the midi merger function to transfer those messages directly to the MIDI OUT on the core.  This is not working for me.  I am getting the DIN generated signals but nothing from the Casio keyboard.  If I connect directly to the Casio keyboard it works

I have made my own MIDI cable which I have checked a couple of times.  Pin 4 to pin 4, pin 5 to pin 5, shield (pin 2) connected only at plug connecting to OUT.  I don't have any other way to test this lead in a MIDI cuicuit.

I have enabled midi_merger in the .syx file.

Is there any hardware changes I need to make to the CORE to get this function to work?

Is there something else I have missed?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

  11. I am by no means an expert in these matters, however I think I can give a suggestion for changing the Midi channel.

The program MIDIOX (http://www.midiox.com/) has a lot of useful MIDI functions.  One of them is to be able to read incomming MIDI and convert it, then send it out.  (This will only work if MIDIOX is able to read your USB input).  The program you are using will then read its MIDI input from MIDIOX output and not your USB keyboard.

I hope this is of some help.

  12. I have received my kits from smash, 2x CORE, 6x DIN.

I have built up 1x CORE and 1x DIN and tested with multimeter ok.

Connected USB to MIDI converter (Edirol UM-1X)

Opened MIOSSTUDIO Beta4_4.jar and set as per instructions

Had the upload request showing every 2 seconds

Uploaded MIOS_V1_9_PIC18F452.hex messages all looked ok

Now get Sysex Message only on power up of the Core (as per documentation)

    Opened SysexBox18F_V1_1c

    Uploaded Midio128.syx from mk_midio128 / pic18f

(Now was hoping I could test the unit)

    Connect J3 D0 with J3 VS, no output.  (Smash TV’s latest PCB’s)

(also tried J4, J5 & J6 same contacts, no output)

    Is this a valid test?

    Have I missed something?

Do I need to load PEARL to get a default setup running?

Is there any other way to edit the .ini files?

(Midibox syx editor download links don’t work)  Only the 16F version seems to be available which just looks like an old version of Sysexbox.

The instructions say to terminate the last shift register to ground to stop invalid values.  Is this done by connecting J2 S1 with J2 VS?    (again Smash TV’s latest PCB’s)

Is this necessary at this initial stage of testing?  (I have tried it either way without any change in my results)

I am feeling a bit useless at this point.  I have gone over all the documentation I can find and searched the forum for clues.  (that helped me get MiosStudio going)  MIDI Troubleshooting deals with earlier stages which were ok for me.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    ???

  13. Thank you for your response Jim.  I feel privileged to hear from the guru himself.  Your suggestion simplifies my requirements and reduces the number of boards I need to purchase.  Thank you.

Does anyone know when Smash TV will have kits available for sale again or another option?  They have not responded to my email yet.  Mike’s MIDI Shop seems to work out somewhat more expensive for my Australian exchange rate and I am not registered for PayPal but obviously could do if needed.

In my experimenting with Miditzer using the Casio in split mode as Solo & Pedals, I have found delay which I have read is to do with MS GS Wavetable SW synth on my laptop.  I am considering where to head with a USB sound card or setting up a dedicated desk computer.  Any thoughts or experiences?

I have also suffered limitations in the number of notes I can play in a chord (polyphony), particularly with a number of stops on.  I only have 10 fingers and am probably only playing 7 or 8 notes at one time.  Would the better sound card using sound fonts solve this or is it worth considering a separate sound card for each MIDI device (in my case 2x)
