  1. read read read read read till you can't see any letters anymore, and then get your hands moving and start building.

It will be very very hard for a n00b, but in the end, you've got a working MB AND you lost your n00b status.. And believe me, even if you haven't seen a PCB before, it's really fun!

  2. Let me tell you, ableton 6 has lots and lots of new MIDI futures. You might wanna use them with your box, so stop building, get ableton 6, and continue building :P

It has support for multi-midi-commands (unlimited crossfaders for everything), group-params, etc.

I would really really really want to take a look at that, if I were you.

  3. Ivo, I think it would be better to make the PCB's yourself, there must be some people that can do that for you among friends or even at your school... Saves lots of money, and perhaps you can draw some custom boards so that you can stuff the encoders on a PCB instead making a cable mess.

  5. hey, good idea  :D

and now to complete the Pot-LED-Idea:

    A red-green-LED !

by turning the pot in a certain direction the colour changes from red over yellow to green and vice versa!

should be quite easy to to:

+5V connected to the middle pin of the pot

pot-pin-1 connected  to the red anode of the LED and pot-pin-3 connected to the green anode of the LED. LED-cathode goes to gnd.

That's a brilliant idea. I'm gonna use this for my box too, if you don't mind ;)

  6. get some coffee, a whole lot of time, and an internet connection.

the next 4 days you will be reading and reading and reading ucapps and the wiki, and the forum.

then you start thinking about your design, you order some PCB's, mess it up 1 or 2 times, and you'll have something up and running in 2 months if u have some spare time.

  7. you could use an oldscool 5 channel fader with 3 band equalizer (faders & pots), and add 32 or 16 encoders in your box for additional control. With a bankstick and some buttons for group/bank, you can control a hell of a lot parameters (8000+).

I'm thinking about my multi-purpose design too, but I thought it would be cool to have a old scool mixer sexion, and a new-style parameter tweaking section, with some joysticks, faders, encoders, pots, led rings, led-strips (encoder-volume-bar), etc.
