The Big Ear

Hello, I've build a seq some time ago, but got stuck on a side note when trying it out. Now I just started reusing the machine again and I'm a bit stuck... I'm also not sure if I'm using the last version. How do I check this? Track Event 5: I think this is what "drum mode" is. But when I put a note on layer A it's also on on layer B&C. Alas, with "0" velocity the note is gone again... But even then, "0" velocity doesn't always result in a 'no sound' either. So how is this mode used? Is there a drum mode as in 3 fixed notes and length and variable velocity but independent triggerable? Phrase mode: It took me a while before I found out about this position (layer B button) function. Especially when I noticed I was changing banks instead of patterns, but I think I got it now. Anyway, when changing position, it changes position immediately. Got to the Sync pattern change option to change this, but now as soon as I select a new position, the tracks are muted. At the next start the newly selected position is started and you can hear it again. Is this also some sort of option? On topic, how do you chain patterns, haven't found this one either yet. Well, that's it for now. It will take me some more time to learn about this machine, but I'm sure we'll get along eventually ;-) Cheers, ToAd

I've built a AOUT LC, activated it in the SW, but I only get 0 to +/-5V out. I'm using a +/-15V PSU (Old MOTM PSU) Resistor values are OK... I didn't bother to match the 10K resistors for this one. And now that I'm asking questions, my MIDI out ports 1 & 2 give the same output. I mean, when selecting midi out 1, I also see the led of midi out 2 blinking. Midi out 2 is "available". I must admit I didn't install the 1K (or was it 10k) resistors connected to 5V at the selection pins. Any ideas? Cheers, Tom

I removed the PIC, still ground. disconnected the leds, no longer ground. I've got a dout problem. But the din's are working now ;-) Cheers, Tom

What should one measure at this point (PIN21 of PIC) when the power's off? I measure ground there. Is this Ok? When the power's on, I see a "not so nice" "puls" on the RC pin. The SC pin "puls" is much nicer. Having some problems starting the interface of my SEQ... Cheers, Tom

Ok guys, thanks! it's working now. I used my lab power supply, measured 0.02 to 0.03A and with this PSU it was working OK. My other PSU, a typical AC/DC adapter states 0.5A, 6V. It's an old PSU from a small radio, and this one worked fine for a Midithru box I've built. Anyway, I now know what to do... build an interface ;-) Cheers, Tom

Guys, The Core of my SEQ v3 is working. But only after i've grounded pin 1 of the pic for a while. When I power up the Core, I get nothing on the LCD. But after doing the grounding trick it starts up. I was able to load MIOS and the SW. But I can't see me doing this each time I want to use the SEQ. Any suggestions? Cheers, Tom

Hi Guys, I'm a happy P3 owner: more info here: http://www.sequentix.com/ I would buy a second P3 if they would still be available as PCB's or Kit's, unfortunately Colin stopped providing them and I really can't afford a pre made one. So I looked on the web and I think the MIDI box SEQ is the best alternative. The P3 has this very nice feature of accumulators which allow for masking gates, some sort of LFO on velocity's, .... really all sorts of wacko stuff. Is there anyone who has played both the P3 and the SEQ? How do they compare? Cheers, Mozzy
