  1. yea trust me i've looked over both of those extensively. however, the wiring diagram is different from the new AIN R3 module. On the old one there is only one J7. On the new one there are J7-J10. Here's my new guess: J7 Vs and Vd will be the +5V and the Common for 8 of my pots. J8 Vs and Vd will be the +5V and the Common for 8 more pots. J9... J10... Which then leads me to the question, if I use the Vd on J7-10, I don't need to use the Vd on J1-4 right? thanks again.
  2. Ok. I've got only a few weeks to finish my project b/c I'm doing it for school. This seems like a very stupid question but I need to know. Where do the +5V and Common leads end up? I understand the picture represented in the Walkthrough that represents the "starlike" diagram of wiring, but don't know where to terminate the wires. The best I can come up w/ is that the ground goes to the extra Vs poking out on J5, however still unsure where the +5V will go. Also, on the new PCBs (for AIN) by SmashTv I need some clarification on J7-J10. It seems to me that J7 Vd and Vs will go into the two Vd's on the far right of J1. Then J8 Vd and Vs will go into the two Vd's on the far right of J2... etc. Is this correct? Thanks guys. tim.
  3. I'm beginning the putting together of my ableton controller and need to know one thing. In order to get this to work (the whole MIDI feedback making an LED glow), the LEDs are simply run to a DOUT pcb right? Then in MIOS each LED is assigned a MIDI note? thanks tim.
  4. Wow I really like this. I've been searching forever for a cheap lit button. Amazing! What size buttons and leds are you using for this one?
  5. On the topic of buttons... quick question: I'm also in search of buttons and need to know something about the LED wiring. Do the LED contacts need to be seperate of the buttons contacts? I think so because they need to go back to a seperate PCB but I need to know 'cause I want a button w/ the LED inside of it, not a seperate LED. Thanks, TIM
  6. Just recently got in all my parts from SmashTV and everything is going very smoothly so far. I want to ask before I make a crucial error though... J12 and J13 (the three pins under the Midi ports) are only if I were to panel mount the ports right? And in that case, I can just leave those alone and place the Midi ports right on top of them right? Thanks.
  7. alright that's what I thought....it would give me is more control and sync, but obvioulsy it would be much more expensive. Thanks
  8. How many people are using motorized faders and how many are not? I'm trying to decide which to buy and what would give me the most benefit. It sounds like most are using motorized but it is possible to use regular faders right? Thanks
  9. Anyone ever use carbon fiber for a faceplate? Yea it would be more expensive but I could imagine it would look amazing. I was thinking of using like a flight case type thing and using the carbon fiber just for the face. The one thing I can't tackle is, if I did use it, how would I label the thing? any suggestions?
  10. Well looking at the module it looks like I will need both. A 16 pin cable for the LCD screen, and 10 pin cables for the AINs DINs and DOUTs. (I am getting the MB64)
  11. Hey do smash's module kits come w/ ribbon cable or not? also do I need 16 pin or 10 pin? (i'm building a MB64) thanks TIM
  12. As in, the MB64 would not accept both a DIN and an AIN?
  13. Hey I'm working on an Ableton controller for a senior project (part of our curriculum is to do a project that we work on all year). I have had many sketches and lots of crossed out stuff and added stuff, and finally I have come up with a design that I think I'm happy with. However, since I am new to this whole thing I'm wanting to know what you guys think. It has a total of 62 analog inputs (9 faders, 53 pots) and 47 buttons, so I should be okay with using a core, two AINs and 2 DINs. There will be 44 Leds for the buttons so I think I can get away with just one DOUT. I will be using this for two purposes in a worship setting: -Playing pre-made loops and controlling each instrument's effects -Creating loops on-the-fly via ReWiring to Fruity Loops Send A will be my master, and Send B will be my headphones. After searching and reading around here, I notice that most people use encoders for tempo. One other thing I saw was two buttons for +1 -1 tempo. Are there any other ways to do tempo b/c I don't wanna use an encoder since that requires buying the MB64e as well (right?). Tell me what you think. Thanks, TIM MIDI Controller.JPG
  14. haha it's ok they won't know the difference if it works or not. They'll be impressed by all the knobs and buttons anyways. I have until late February to finish this though so I think I can do it. Having read and searched this forum this is what I understand: I can do what I want by linking two of those cores together. What I still don't get though is if I can just use two of those that I found or if I need a MB64e... Also w/ the core, do I also need to buy a DIN for actually hooking all the inputs up? Thanks
  15. Hello all. I am building a MIDI controller for Ableton for a major project in school. It will have 67 pots, 11 faders, and 42 buttons for a total of 120. I need to know more about the core. If I buy the "core kit" ($15) from SmashTV will I need more than that to hook up all my buttons and pots? Also I'm still very confused about the PIC header deal. Do I even need that or is that just for LED displays? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, TIM
