  1. Thanks man, are all the sounds from the fm synth?
  2. fokfokfok

    samples?

I'm thinking about building a MIDIbox FM, but I'm not sure how it sounds. I've heard the samples at ucapps, but they seem a little weird and the page says that "Most of these samples don't reflect the typical OPL3 sound". Does anyone know if there is a place I can find some more typical samples? thanks fokfokfok
  3. Hi! I've just finished a control A midibox sid. I'll probably post pics later, though it's not anything special really. Now I want to make som patches. I figure that it's easier to do using a computer. I've tried the JsynthLib, but I don't know if there's a better way. The major problem I had, was that I could nok find a way to edit the pathes while hearing the changes. I had to make a complete patch, then transfer it, and only then could I hear it. Is there a better way to edit pathes? I guess I could use the control surface, but I thought it would be more suited for minor changes. TIA
  4. I don't think it is wired wrong, since it works fine the most of the time. The only thing that doesn't work very well is when I turn it fast, but I think that's probably a software issue. But even if I did wire it wrong, it still feels a kinda cheap, so I would like to try another encoder. I should mention though, that I'm not really a big fan of encoders, so I'm maybe a bit hard to please.
  5. It feels a bit cheap, and though it usually works fine it sometimes does weird stuff like not reacting or even decrease values that should be increased.
  6. hey guys :D I finally completed my step A sid, and now I'm going to put it in a nice box and actually make som music. However, I have to figure a few things out first. 1. Has anybody tried to add a volume pot to the output? What value, and how should it be wired? 2. I'm not satisfied with the bourns encoder, and searching the forums it seems like the voti and alps encoders are the most popular, but which one is the best one? Also, I wouldn't mind paying som more if I could get an even better encoder. Are the voti and alps encoders the best, or are they just popular because they are cheap as well?
  7. Actually, I'd already tried that. My midi interface appears as emulated though. Don't know if thats a problem. Anyways, I'm wondering if I missed something obvious, or if something is wrong with my system. Is the midi configuration the only thing I have to do?
  8. I can't make it work. No sound is comming from my SID when I play the vsti :'( I don't know if I have to configure it in some way? I use Cubase btw.
  9. So 500mA isn't enough? 15V 500mA adaptors are pretty common where I come from (Denmark), but I cannot find any regulated adaptors which are over 15V. I guess I could get an unregulated adaptor but that would only make the problem worse right? Why is everybody so keen on that old c64 ps?. It's obvious that it's the best solution from a electrical point of view, but from a practical point of view it sucks. It's not easily available/replaceable, it's big and most importantly (for me at least) it's ugly and maybe even smelly. I want a machine that sounds dirty, not look dirty. From searching the forums and uCApps, it seems like the only problem using a standard 15V wallwart is that 7805 get's very hot. Why can't I just put a heatsink on it? I haven't found a post yet where someone fried something because of the psu. And even if you still think that it would get too hot, why couldn't I just add another voltage regulator like a 7809 and do the conversion in to steps. Then it definetly wouldn't be a problem.
  10. LOL, yeah mp3 samples of course.
  11. hi again! I bought a 6581R4 on ebay, but the guy offered me an R4AR instead. I spend an hour googling the different reversions but all the links to samples were dead:( Which one would you guys pick?
  12. I don't have the original psu, so that's not an option. I cannot figure out if there's a problem, using a standard ac adaptor? If it just gets a little hot and introduces some background noise, then it isn't really a problem I think. But I don't want to damage anything...of course. As for the cables/connectors. How do I know what I need?
  13. hey guys I wan't to built a 1xSID synth with the simple control unit :D I know I have to get: 1 a sid chip (going to buy a 6581R4) 1 core kit (with pic) 1 sid kit 1 DIN kit (or I could make a DINx1 on a protoboard) 1 rotary encoder 6 buttons 1 20x2 LCD 1 15V 500mA psu 1 enclosure 2 audio sockets But is that all? What about cables? Don't I need some ribon cables and connectors? Does the psu have to be regulated or can I just buy an el cheapo ac adaptor? I guess I need to buy a socket for the adaptor plug as well? Also, I've noticed that smashTV sells a rotary encoder with a switch. What is that used for?
