Here are some interesting PIC-based ADSR and LFOs that would look GREAT in a MIDIBOX ;)
Keep in mind the non-commercial, personal-use/educational license, but besides that, it looks great :) Nice documentation and everything.

*bump*
Since this idea was last dug-into, there have been some interesting developments in the AY-3-8912 world. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Instruments_AY-3-8912#Uses about the Viterbi Search, It's really neat.
In 2006 two MSX developers created an advanced encoder that converts a wave file to optimal PSG channel transitions using Viterbi search. They replayed a 44.1kHz wave file on a 23 year old MSX with higher SNR than an 8-bit DAC. The Viterbi search is rather CPU intensive so even though it would have been theoretically possible to use this method already in the 80's, there were no computers powerful enough to perform the analysis required.Music sample played on a Philips VG-8020 demonstrating the Viterbi encoded AY sample player :o :o :o (The VG-8020 has the AY-3-8910 inside)
I wonder what kind of processor we'd need to calculate Viterbi on-the-fly ???
Edit: I guess I should have wiki-searched 8912 instead of 8910... http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/midibox_ay_3_8912?s=3+8912.. Still leaves the Viterbi question open though.

I usually check out 411 Tech Systems first,
They've got a 20x4 for $10.99, and ship to Canada.
(Be ready to expect the usual $5 inspection fee at the border)

Of course, AllElectronics redesigned the site, and now those links don't work anymore >:(

Hmm, as a new option, check out the (fully embeddable) Mibbit, it runs on AJAX. No Java, No Flash, just good ol' Javascript and XML ;D

I just saw the "SNES APU on a PC" link on Hack-A-Day, and immediately ran over here to post about it, but it looks like I was beaten to it! :o

More illuminated buttons, this one a little less sexy, but still functional.

I found Mibbit (http://www.mibbit.com/), an AJAX-based IRC client, which you can embed in an IFRAME.

NO REPLY FOR YOU!
COME BACK 1 YEAR!
;D

Because when you answer the posting directly above yours, cascading is built in! You read down the page, right?
It depends who you're replying to.

2) The icon flashes
Doesn't for me :o

Firmware is quite stable now with all features working, but I need to design layout for new MB module. If you want to help with testing or designing layout then let me know.
So, a SwinSIDx2 module? Sweet ;D
So, do you have a circuit diagram and need a layout, or do you need both?

Hi Pilo,
do you have a link to the pin description?
Best Regards, Thorsten.
Hi TK,
I'll send you one :)

Not to put off the current chat room, but it would be a lot easier (for me, at least) to be able to connect with IRC.
Here are some reasons, from my point of view:
- Leaving a window open just to have chat is kind of a pain, and also a hog
- There's no visual notification of a new message, only sound. (I have sounds turned off so as not to disturb others)
- I already have an IRC app running (Many people will have [Windows] MIRC, Trillian, Pidgin, etc, or [linux] xIRC, Kopete, Pidgin, etc)
- You can get IRC clients for many different platforms
We could always use PJIRC (http://www.pjirc.com/main.php) for the "Chat" page, which would allow us to connect by way of other applications, too ;D
Just a suggestion ;D

Hey folks,
I figured this might be useful: http://www.hackaday.com/2008/01/20/backlight-your-lcds/

Aren't they around 40V???
US, they're 60V AC for a ring, IIRC
-
are there a portable (open source too) and multiplatform SID player out there? A simple command line app is enough, so others will can use it as a basis for implementing plugins for audio/media players and such.
-
Looks like the MAX6954 or MAX6955 would work well to drive these things.

Hey folks,
I found a fairly simple function generator schematic. It may be fun to point its output to a sound chip or two ;D

Ooh.
3x Broken/parts C64s. Great for cases, and they say there's at least 1 good SID (most likely 6581) in the lot. http://cgi.ebay.com/3-Defective-Commodore-64-computers-for-parts-or-repair_W0QQitemZ110207806381QQcmdZViewItem

Your second link is to the pots page, not a macro keyboard. I assume you're talking about this one:
Fixed :)
Judging by the images, these two go together.
Yep.
