  1. Hi there.

I've been using 2 GM5x5x5's with several Linux distributions (mostly Debian and Arch) for a long time now and never had any problems.

Really just plug and play and worked 100%, running for days...

Sorry if thats not much help for you :/

  2. I agree the LCD does not match the LEDs very well. Do you have a partnumber and/or supplier of the display you mentioned?

Futuba and Noritake make nice VFDs:

There are probably a lot more manufacturers. You can also try searching ebay for "4x20 VFD".

Look here to see if the dimensions would fit: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=wilba_mb_6582_control_surface_parts_list

  3. This guy has a USB MIDI control board and a bunch of control software (running under Max for Live) for the MegaDrive.

Damn I was watching this project for years! And now that its finally there I miss it of course...

Well, its only USB Midi so far, buuut (from the FAQ):

Can I buy an "old school" MIDI version of the GenMDM(i.e. 5 pin DIN connection instead of USB)?

Not currently, but this is being explored as a future possibility. Thanks for your patience.

So its worth to wait for that version anyway :)

    Thanks for the reminder!

  4. No, MBSID V2 doesn't send a MIDI clock, but I will add this to the next release.

How/When should MIDI clock start & stop be sent?

Woohoo :) I think the F1 or Play Button on MB6582 would be fine, as this would only be used in bassline or drum mode I guess...

  5. Question 2: I opened the sammichSID and saw that there are 2x 8550 R5 MOS Chips in it. I never heard of 8550, are those replicas ?

Hmmm where have I seen this before? ;)

See Wilbas post about this here:

They are definitely remarked. You should check out if all the oscillators work, and if the filters work correctly.

  6. Quoting TK on this:

Meanwhile I think that it should also be considered to slightly increase the case size for the new MBHP_CORE_LPC17 module, especially if you want to plan with future buyers.

The LCD connectors of this module are touching Wilba's Frontpanel, because the board is larger than MBHP_CORE_STM32.

With the current case this can be fixed by removing the top of the IDC connectors, and by squeezing the cables (alternatively don't use sockets but solder the LCD cables directly), but this isn't a perfect solution for such an expensive case, and would only be acceptable for a small number of real DIY people.

  7. just a last question: if i build a 6582 with just 4 or two sid, total price will be reduced ??? thanks

You can use only one SID on each module and use them in mono mode. That way you would save the cost of 4 SIDs. The limitations of only using one SID per MBSID module are that you can not use any of the polyphonic features, have less voices in drum mode, only 3 OSCs in multi mode, and only one bassline at a time in bassline mode.
