  1. Just to add my 2 cents, these switches are awesome - I desoldered about 150 or so of them from older equipment, as they give a very nice tactile feedback. Also, they are still quite stylish - especially with the 3mm LED in one of the corners.

I'm going to start doing a redesign tonight so I can use these switches... lol

  2. Hahaha, no worries my friend. I downloaded their catalogue and found all the technical drawings that I was looking for (yay for 3D design). I'll let you know if I need to order some of them, they may be too big though (5mm extra adds up after a while ;)).

Your controller is awesome BTW, I hope my ableton controller compares.

  3. The bicolor LED issue has discouraged me from using any of the pre-made button pad PCBs - how do you plan to overcome this?

    :)

I found some that have two leads. So hopefully i'll be able to hack that in, if not i'm going to drill out current holes and build a daughter board. It's quite excessive to build a secondary board just for LEDs (and if i did that I would use RGB).

  4. Hi everyone! I've finally finished the layout of my Midibox. It's going to be used mostly for Ableton Live.

    Enjoy the pics :)

    Overview..

    Left:

8x8 Livid Pads - Going go to have Bicoloured LEDs (The boards only have 2 holes for the LEDS :()

    8 x Icecube Buttons

8 x Pots for volume on 8 tracks

    Middle:

Faders and buttons all around :)

Encoder and buttons for LCD Control

    Right:

    16 encoders with LED rings.

    20x2 LCD

    Xfader

I still need to add some more buttons for transport control near the bottom, but this is pretty much it :)

    Any suggestions?

  5. I'm looking for a 4way navigation switch for my project. I've found the switches on mouser or digikey but it appears that they are pretty vanilla and i was unable to find any good caps for them. Has anyone found a good solution for navigating an LCD? I would prefer a 4 way switch with selection but i would like it to be be illuminated and have fairly large buttons.

    ANy ideas?

  6. hey, they even got 4x4, and matching pcb (cut to desired size!). nice!

they're smaller (0.5") than the sparkfun ones (0.59"), which i find is a good thing, but they also got bigger ones (0.625").

I'm more curious to hear about the operational force on them, which is why I was asking :).

I've heard that the sparkfun ones require slightly to much force and are unreliable in terms of the buttons being pressed. I was hoping that these ones are better suited for MIDI controllers (they have to be decent since they sell them for that purpose). It will be cheaper than the alternatives too.
