Wrong! It's actually quite easy.Just switch the midi jumper and upload the software. Remember to use the right ID number for the right core. All my cores are online now. Sorry about that... I tried to just connecting the control pot near the LCD display and power to the CS - still nothing. Any ideas?

Hello. I have some severe problems with my MB6582. I hope you can help me... Thanks. 1) When I install the "MB6592.hex" I get a continues (test?)tone from SIDs 1 and 2. I can edit the sound over midi via the sysex editor. When i install 1.7x i don't get a continues tone. *SOLVED* 2) The control surface is dead. No response - nothing. I will mesure voltages later today (especially at JD9). I have not installed R40 - R55 (the resistors for the LED's). Is that necessary for the CS to run? I wouldn't think so. *SOLVED* 3) I can't edit core 2's SIDs (0000 0000 0000 0001) via the sysex editor. I get no sound from SID 3 and 4. Im currently running with 2 cores. Everytime I boot the display reads "cloning slaves" and then "Launching CS". No errors *SOLVED* I know that I have a lot of problems with my MB6582 and that there can be many different causes. I hope you have some pointers or suggestions. Thanks! Suicide Sushi

I have decided to drill some bigger holes for the tactile switches in the front panel. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks! -

Yes I attached the wires. But I didn't attach the resistors for the LED's. Thank's. Suicide Sushi -
Humpf puff argh frontpanel fitting issue

Okay. It seems like I have bigger problems then my frontpanel fitting. :frantics: First of all my CS doesnt work at all. No reaction from the tactile switches. And no reaction from the pots. Do I have to fit the resistors for the LED's tom make the tactile switches and pots work? I installed the latest Midibox SID 2 software (the MB6582 hex file) which boots fine but the SIDS only make a continues sound. I installed an older version of Midibox SID (1.7 i think) by accident at first and the SID's sounded fine when i played som notes on the MIOS keyboard. When I installed the latest version of Midibox SID 2 I recieved an error "ERROR - Can't clone core 3". When i fitted PIC 3 I bended a leg and booted my MB6582 without one of the PIC's legs in the right position. I then refitted the PIC into it's right position. I know that 2 of the connection wires between the Base PCB andt the CS PCB are broken on my pics. But they were fine when I tried to make the CS work. They are a result of me trying to fit the CS PCB with the front panel. Maby I should start a new thread. :twitch: -

Thanks a bunch for the replys everyone. You are so nice and helpfull. Coming now  But it is quite hard to take pictures of the problem. But I tried. Yes. Nooo. Which is where it went wrong i guess. Maby i should unsolder the switches and resolder them one by one while checking alignment (mission impossible?). I just figured it all would fit because the tactile swithes fitted so tight to the PCB. And yes I was grapped by the "almost there" feeling. FPE did an amazing job. I think i would rather buy a new CS PCB and parts than buying a new front panel or start drilling. -
Hello everyone! Happy New Year! :sorcerer: Okay, im almost there with my MB6582 build, and i can't seem to fit the frotnpanel to my control PCB. I ordered it from Schaeffer and i used the suggested layout file. I fitted the LED's first to the control PCB without problems. It all fitted! Then i fitted the small switches (and the pots but they don't seem to be a problem) and i can't seem to fit the front panel and the PCB because of the switches... Argh! I've read the very nice CS construction Photo guide, and i've been through Wilbas CS guide. Does anybody have any good ideas how to make the small switches fit? How to get them inside the holes in the front panel. Im so close! Please help... Thanks! HAPPY NEW YEAR. Take care with the fireworks and all! Jeppe / Suicide Sushi

Hey Wilba. Thank you for the swift answer. I decided to go with PSU option B instead. Since I already have a working C64 PSU it seems like the best solution. And I really don't want to take any big risks with my build... :geek: Thank's for the very nice PCB design and the very useful documentation. It's very nice to work with!

Hello. So I am at a crossroad in my MB6582 build. I have decided to use a custom case and I want to go with PSU option C... But in the documentation there is a warning about overheating, hum and noise with that option. Does anyone have any experience with PSU option C? Is it recommended? Or should I go with PSU option D and use a seperatie PSU that delivers the 5, 9, and 12v? Thank's a Bunch! Jeppe / Copenhagen

Just got massive collection of SIDs. Diving in head first...

Do you have any 6582's left? Im in need of 2 (or maybe more)... Thank you - and enjoy the plunge! :ahappy: -
Hey Arti. Are you selling SID's? I'm looking for some 6582 or 8580. How much do you want for 4 SID chips? EDIT: Minor spelling errors.

Ohhh. That sure is pretty! Thanks!

Hey Bääääär. Thanks! Ill check out Doepfer and contact you when i'm further in the build. Unfortunately i'm not able to burn chips :/ So I will propably go with the complete Doepfer solution. Suicide Sushi

Hello fellow Midiboxers. I'm currently building a MB-6582. I would like to build it into a bigger box with keys - Korg MS20 style. Has anyone build something similar? Can any of you midiboxers recommend a simple midikeyboard that is easy to modify so that it would fit into such a build? Thanks in advance! Suicide Sushi / Jeppe

Super! Thank's...

Okay. I've looked through the Wiki. And it seems like I'll be able to use two SID's (as you said) and only one IC to control them, and then later on, as I salvage some old C64's, I'll be able to stuff the synth with more IC's and more SID's? But it will fire up with only two SID's and one IC? Right? Über Cool. Thank's.

Thanks a bunch dudes!

Hello! First post... So I't may bo a Newbie question. Sorry about that. I'm planning on building a Midibox SID and I would like the "full" control surface. So it seems that the MB-6582 PCB is the easiest way to build the MBSID. SID chips are hard to come by, and I only have 2 SIDs. Can i use the MB-6582 with only 2 SIDs in a stereo setup? Or should i get the core module and some SID modules. What modules do I need for the full control surface? Thanks a bunch in advance! And a thanks to alle you DIY people who invest time and mind into projects like the midibox SID! Deep respect! By the way, I tried to get a hold on the MB-6582 manual/documentation, but I didn't succeed. Does anyone have a working link? Maybe i can find all the info in there... Thanks! Jeppe / Copenhagen
