Sysex load problems?

Hey everyone,

I finished assembling my first MB Sid a couple of weeks ago, but I can't get the 6581 sys file to upload to the core module correctly. I checked around the forum here, and the closest thing I found was about defective optoisolators, which I switched out and still no luck. Everything is getting the appropriate voltages, so I'm perplexed as to what is going on, or not going on as the case is. The display still just reads "Ready", but no MIDI data is moving around. I've tried using the MIDI interconnect test, and the SID test tone, and NOTHING on any of them. What am I doing wrong?!?

I suppose I forgot to mention that it's just the Core and a single SID module, no control surface or anything.

which tests of the MIDI troubleshooting guide are working, which ones are failing?

All of the core tests passed, Test out 1 failed. Tests PC1 and PC2 passed. Test IN 1 & 2 passed, but test IN 3 failed. I still have to work through the rest, hopefully today.
