Problems with core and jdm

msi

Recommended Posts

I have completed myself a jdm, core and sid modual.  I have managed to test the JDM with success, and succesfully programmed one PIC, but when I tried again, I get the 00000h error that other people seem to be getting.  It hasn't programmed anything since.

My other problem is with my core modual.  When I plugged it in, the 7805 got extreamly hot.  Hot enough to desolder itself.  I am going to replace it because I believe its probley been damaged.  The AC adaptor I used was 9v at 850ma.  I asked my father because he has more electronics experience than I do, and he suggested that it might be a polarity problem.  I'm looking to get a second opinion now.  Does anyone have any ideas on these problems.  Thank you.  I haven't tested the sid yet, but I'm thinking I might have problems with that one as well.  :(

If your 7805 gets hot it's maybe because there a short circuit somewhere! don't turn it on too long if it gets hot.. and try to find where is the error, I don't think it will be hard ;)

For the JDM... Mine is working, and I think I'm lucky, because I can't do any debugging on it...

Check all your programming config settings, as shown on Thorsten's 'how to program' page. Check you have chosen the correct chip from the device list.

pilo is right about the 7805. Make sure you replace it, or check it still regulates at 5v before plugging any chips into the circuit!

check for short circuits with a multimeter, check your wiring again! you can test the 7805 out of the circuit... when it is laying on its back, (and pins facing towards you) the left pin goes to supply positive, the middle to supply 0v (negative/ground) put a voltmeter between the centre pin and the pin on the right. You should get a reading of 5v.

good luck!
