Midiclock with tap-tempo. (34one)

While surfing on the net I came across a really interesting product. It is a stomp-like midiclock that you tap to sync your gear. It is called Playtec 34oneII http://www.ploytec.de/34oneII/.

I want to build something similar using midibox hardware, but my programming skills are very poor. I figure one would only need a core. would be nice to add some blinking leds to indicate the tempo and maybe also lcd.

Any ideas? Can this easily be done easily?
