Hello,

i've got a strange problem. I built a MB Sid a few years ago for myself, it was with MIOS 1.7 and SID App. 1.7. Now I started to build another one for a friends birthday present. Since I am into electronic stuff, i had a few pic18F452 in stock. I ordered the core and sid pcb's from mike's german shop (it says V2.0). Then after soldering everything I found out - the SID Application now runs on a 18F4685. I tried to get it working with my 18f452 - bootloader, mios 1.9g and sid 1.73 application installed - yeah, fine. Display 2x16 is fine, too. Core is responding to MIDI without problems, SID pcb is working either. But when it comes to the DIN module for buttons and the encoder (DIN1X) - there seems to be a problem - it does not respond to anything. This is no cable issue, everything checked at least thrice. On an oscilloscope the SC signal seems ok, RC is always high but - S1 line is always high, too (S0 for DOUT has a signal on J8). Why? 74165 wants it low and pulsing for serializing the inputs. Forcing it to a trigger signal, i can pass signals to the core (changing the menu on the display at least).

What went wrong? Is this an issue with the latest MIOS release being incompatible to SID 1.73 App? Does an older mios 1.7 or something already send the clock signal for the SID (I remeber an extra oscillater in earlier versions)?

Thanks for any hints,

Kris.

Hi Kris,

RC is always high but

thats strange! RC should toggle for ca. 1 uS each millisecond

S1 line is always high, too

SI should toggle depending on the button states if RC captures the button inputs.

What went wrong? Is this an issue with the latest MIOS release being incompatible to SID 1.73 App?

No, there shouldn't be a compatibility problem.

You can verify this by uploading the MIDIO128 application.

More troubleshooting tips related to the DIN module can be found here (search for "Testing"):
