Guest Kartoffel
I'm going to take the plunge and build me a midi control for Traktor and have some questions. After I get everything setup for the front panel I'm going to start the electronics. But first things first.First does anyone have any suggestions for a traktor (and maybe future ableton live) device? I figure on going with the midibox 64 plan and using plain 1 turn pots and slide pots and some buttons both momentary on and some on and off ones (if I can do this ). Since Traktor doesn't do midi out there is no reason to use encoders--right?I figure I don't need the LCD module either. Would it be helpful for anything?I'll probably put on a bunch of controls for nearly all the features in Traktor and make it look similar to the Traktor screen. Now for the pots I need 0-10kOhm pots and sliders right? I like this design (realize there is a gemini 626 in there but I'll be starting from scratch). http://www.midibox.org/midibox_gallery/nicolas1.jpgNow where can I find colorful knobs and buttons and sliders like his? All I can find are big clunky plastic ones and I can't find any fader knobs. I'd also like to get some big buttons if I can find some (like 1" or more in diameter) I'm in the US.Now for ageneral midi question. I've hardly used midi controls. If I set up this controller and plug it in to Traktor will Traktor automatically set itself up like my board? i.e. I plug in my board and my crossfader is all the way to the right. Will Traktors move all the way to the right on startup? If I use click on and off buttons and I have the low range kill button on on startup will traktor do the same? Thanks for the help. I'll post my front panel design when I get it done.Jeff
LO
Traktor is very easy to set up for Midi controlYou build the surface any way you want it, then traktor will learn the midiI agree you dont need to worry about encoders for a DJ setup. Traktor has soft takeover function anyway I have just used pots and im very happy with it.No midi out? are you sure?LCD useful for trouble shooting etc but not for general use in this application
rogic
Traktor has soft takeover function anyway I have just used pots and im very happy with it.LO, I can't see the connection - guy is asking about encoders... what is soft takeover in Traktor? Does that change pot behaviour in some way?Am I missing something here?@KartoffelEncoders can be good when used like jog-dials on pro cd players. When you spin one, Traktor should rewind track...or you can use it for pitch-bending, etc....I built myself MB64 for Traktor usage mainly, but MB64 has no option for encoders, so it is only pots/faders/buttons but it works great
