Dubsky Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Hi all, I followed this forum for a while and just received my sammichSID so it was time to registrate :) Alongside making music I also experiment with brainwave entrainment which I find very effective to obtain an ultimate relaxing state fast. I use a Proteus mind machine which is a small device with a sound wave generator and glasses with leds. It would be fun to create a sammichSID extension port for led glasses to have a sid based light and sound device I was thinking that it might be possible using the sid engine and DOUT pins for the leds to make such sort of device based on MIOS. The basic idea would be that of binaural beats. It should generate two different frequencies on Left and Right channel. The ranges needed are 2hz -40hz. When taking 400 hz on the left ear and 408 hz on the right ear the brain compensates the two and the difference 8hz is audible as a beat. The SID should be able to generate the frequencies and in MIOS LED could be programmed to follow the needed frequency. More effective at entrainment are Isochronic tones which are sequenced tones in such way that your brain hears it at low frequency ranges. These also theoretically could be generated by sequenses of SID And the fun part is you could also sync it to midi so you have a nice visual light show on your eyelids on your own tunes. Are more people here already looking into this subject in relation to MIOS? . Quote
TK. Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 I remember that Kurt did something similar, but without SID based sound output. Here a link to the documentation and a video: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=mblight_mind-machine Of course, it could be possible to output sound as well. MIOS doesn't prevent you from implementing something like this ;) Best Regards, Thorsten. Quote
Dubsky Posted May 9, 2010 Author Report Posted May 9, 2010 Hi Thorsten, Thanks for the reply. I will look into the project already made. Yesterday my sammichSID was built (it was build by someone else who during the build teached me how to solder and test the voltages it was a fun expierence). It's sounding absolutely amazing. It exceeded my expectations in all ways: Fat sounding beast. Only one thing went wrong during the built process and that was the transistor which is designed around the LCD had a meltdown when adjusting the lcd brightness too bright. It took about 9 hours with the two of us but also a lot talking was involved :). The way the kit is designed is really professional. Thanks to you and all the other who contributed to this project for making this possible. I'm really happy with it like a child :) It's been 7 years or so since I found out about this project and since then it was stucked in my mind. Now finally it's blinking in my studio ready to generate some inspirational sounds. Now it's time to experiment with programming MIOS as programming is something I already can as opposed to soldering (which I can now after the sammichSID expierence). Quote
