henrikgo
I finished my sammichSID the other day and everything was working fine, then yesterday when I powered it up the encoder was going bananas! It jumped between steps a lot, one encoder click would jump 2-20 values and when I tried to decrease values it increased them instead etc. I find it really strange that the encoder started to freak out without any reason? I will try to resolder the encoder today and hope for the best, is there any other place I should check? Otherwise I guess I have to change the encoder, but still, I find it strange that a encoder dies after ~5 hours use!
Wilba
Check the encoder pins are not touching the heatsink. A poor solder joint might fail after five hours, or anytime after soldering.
henrikgo
Nah, it's not touching the heatsink but I'll check my joints, where should I check except on the encoder?
Wilba
The 74HC165 on the right, including the resistor networks next to it. You can follow the traces on the top side to where they connect to the IC.
