toneburst Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Hi, anyone in the UK managed to source a suitable sammichSID power-supply? I just bought one from Farnell, but it's of a similar 'inline' style to the original C64 brick, and is almost as bulky and heavy, making it almost as large, and significantly heavier, than the actual sammichSID itself. I've not managed to find a UK supplier for the recommended Jameco wallwart, or one with a UK plug. Anyone any luck with this, or found a working alternative? a|x Quote
taximan Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Hiya, I just buy suitably rated wallwarts and then fit them with screw type jacks (cut the original off and fit the new one with correct polarity and size 2.1/2.5 whatever.) Got my connectors from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5PCS-5-5x2-1mm-Female-DC-AC-Power-Plug-Connector-Adapter-Survey-CCTV-Camera-/280765164985?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item415ee86db9#ht_2791wt_952 cheers Paul Quote
toneburst Posted December 14, 2011 Author Report Posted December 14, 2011 Hi Paul, thanks for the quick reply. It's the 'suitably-rated wallwart' bit I'm having problems with, actually. I was under the impression that a 1A regulated linear (rather than switch-mode) PSU was required, and I've been having problems finding one of those. Looking again at the build manual though, it looks like I misread the first time, and don't need the regulated supply for the 7580R5 SIDs I'm using, so my normal-size 12V/1A wallwart would probably have done the job... a|x Quote
taximan Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Hiya, I have been looking through my stuff and found 2 supplies that work okay with the sammichSID,one is an ac/ac 12volt 1000ma from ebay and the other one is off my rm1x...ac/ac 12v,1.5amp. Only thing I can say about the cheapo power supplies is check the voltage it's giving out before you plug anything in. hope this helps cheers Paul Quote
toneburst Posted December 14, 2011 Author Report Posted December 14, 2011 Thanks Paul. I think my ridiculously oversized Farnell PSU is working OK. I have another issue now, unfortunately. That's another story/topic though ;) Cheers, a|x Quote
