hello. i've got this lcd i scavenged(from a broken peavy dpm 3 keyboard. actually i have all the circuits, yhough the case got tossed long ago.)it is a sharp lm402. it has a chip that says hd4780a00 so it is compatinle right? it seems to be el backlit, hence my question...what will the inverter look like? so that i may find it and scavenge it also, as i understand theese are expensive parts. is it on the board with the lcd? i don't think it is as it has a pretty hefty supply cable going to it.

or should i not bother.. this will probably be a temporary lcd anyway, as i really want one of those negative red ones...

any thoiughts appreciated.

How many pins does it have?

If 14: compatible, but no backlight

If 16: Yeah, with BL and compatible (good chances)

Anyway I would try the normal Displaytech configuration. Worked for me (on Hitachi LCDs). The inverter is normaly implemented.

If you´re still not sure, just google for a datasheet (but I do think lm402 just means 40x2 characters, doesn´t it?).
