x0xb0x Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 hey friends... just recently finished building my sammichSID and for the most part everything works, the firmware and patch transfers worked and the thing makes sounds ! :) I have occasionally experienced the display freeze up yet the synth still still works and I can switch patches but the screen doesn't follow. I've also had a few re-boots (power-cycles) where the sammich doesn't get to the main screen - after a few attempts it sometimes will get there. I'm imagining this is either power supply related or MIDI-related? It seemed to happen most recently when I got deeper into the menus. I'm using a regulated 12V/1A PS with the high-power green LCD and 6582 SID's. (PHC SW-121AR switching power supply) Any advice appreciated; will continue to update this thread if I can find more cause-effect situations. In the meantime should I order the PS recommended from Jameco? Other thoughts? Quote
Hawkeye Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 (edited) Hi, can you measure voltages, when the unit is turned on? To me, it sounds like a power problem, too! I experienced similar behaviour, when adding a very power-hungry VFD to the MB6582, then still with a standard C64-PSU. The VFD caused the 5V "logic" supply voltage to drop to around 4.6V - screen updates were very slow back then and I had the feeling, that the PIC was slowing down or the display could not keep up with the data feed... Many greets, Peter Edited November 17, 2012 by Hawkeye Quote
