this one for encoder freaks

Hello,

I have MB64 with old PIC; Since I don't have the time nor knowledge to build MIOS based box, I decided to look around for some alternative to encoders since they are not supported by MB64 (btw, I only need 2, maybe 4)

So on traktor forum, guy posted this link:

If you go to /Products/Rotary switches/ you can see

3 products; the middle one is called Rotary Pulse Switch. I downloaded pdf and it says that it works with ordinary buttons, around 20 pulses per revolution. But in specifications block it says for Mechanical part, minimum 10.000 rotations...hm... does this mean that this switch is no good quality? What are these values for 'normal' encoders? I need to know if I'll have to change these every now & then, since I am going to use them for jog-dials (Traktor-specific midibox).

seems to be a low-cost encoder, the spec doesn't say if it is detented or not... I wouldn't buy it. Why not purchasing a best-quality ALPS STEC16B03 for ca 2 EUR @ http://www.schuricht.de?

However, rotary encoders are not supported by the PIC16F based MIDIbox64, they require a fast decoding routine which is only provided by PIC16F MIDIbox16E, or by MIOS of course.

Because I don't know how to make a circuit to add encoder support for PIC16F midibox. I know MIOS is great, but I can hardly understand anything there :( (btw, I can't buy new PIC chip over here).

This is "Pulse rotary switch", doesn't need decoding routine - they can be incorporated into any midibox which has DIN - look at the datasheet - it's not ordinary encoder.
