bsa Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 Hi all, First of all let me say.. awesome work TK and everyone else. I wish I'd found this site earlier! I'd like to build a very basic MIDIbox FM. My background is software (including some embedded on LPC). I'm comfortable with coding, but I have zero soldering skills and a limited understanding of electronics - looks like I'm about to learn . I'd like to make sure that I understand all the parts I need, and make sure I haven't missed anything: - LPCEXPRESSO board (LPC1769) from Embedded Artists - blank PCBs (mbhp_core_lpc17 and mbhp_opl3, will order from smashTV) - parts for boards as listed: http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp/mbhp_core_lpc17_orderlist.txt http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp/mbhp_opl3_orderlist.txt - +/- 12V PSU (any recommendations for something I can buy "off the shelf"?) - YMF262 + YAC512 (http://www.ebay.com/usr/smallpartsbigdifference) Which headers from the CORE_LPC17 would be best for the 2x6 lines to control the MBHP_OPL3? GPIOs from the micro would be simple and fast.. but it looks like I need 5V I/Os to control the OPL, so I guess I need to use the J15A and J15B headers from the 74HC595 shift register chip? My UI will be software on PC, via USB or Ethernet. Any other suggestions, pointers or gotchas are appreciated. Thank you!
TK. Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 Hi bsa, Sauraen created a MIOS32 based firmware for the OPL3 chip. I'm sure that he could give you some schematics and his source code for some inspirations. -> Best Regards, Thorsten.
bsa Posted January 4, 2015 Author Report Posted January 4, 2015 Hi Thorsten, Thanks a lot for the fast reply! I'll take a good look at Sauraen's build thread and get in touch with him. Bruce
