Inherited some midibox parts - what project(s) can I build with them?

Hello midibox people!  This is my first post.

I've been doing synth DIY for a year or so building a modular.  I came across the midibox project a while back and figured I'd eventually like to build one with some digital and analog outs for driving the modular but I hadn't really started looking into it properly.  Now all of a sudden I have inherited a bunch of midibox boards, parts, and ICs from a coworker who gave up on his build ages ago because of time constraints.

2x CORE_R4D w PIC18F4685

4x DOUT_R5

4x DIN_R5

2x AIN_R4

1x CORE_V3

2x MBHD_DINX4_V2

2x MBHD_AINX4_V2

2x MBHD_DOUTX4_V2

a kit in a bag labelled LTC_V.2

various button and led matrix boards and associated parts, potentiometers, and some analog joysticks.

First question: does anyone know what the project might have been that he was working on?  It actually looks like he was working on a pair of them, and maybe he started with an older revision.  He had some enclosures custom milled but he doesn't have those any more.

Second question: of these parts, can I use them to build a midibox-seq project with outs to drive my modular?  It looks like there have been some updates to the core since this board was made but is it still possible to use this core to make one?  What additional boards would I need?

Many thanks for your thoughts!
