Inc/Dec from an encoder

encoder question - (and maybe a stupid one)

How do I make the encoder go up and down - it seems like either way I hook it up it only increases the amount when I turn it...I am probably missing some basic point, but I am confused nonetheless - Tim

Hi,

if I remember correctly, this happened when I had  the pins of the encoder connected the wrong way. Try swapping two wires at one time, there aren´t many combinations possible and you can´t damage anything while trying out.

I think you´ve got the stec16B - they have to be connected another way than other encoders. have a look at midibox DINX there´s a schematic for the stec16b....
