where to get cheap lcd's?

hi guys!

does anyone know a supplier of cheap lcd's in austria or germany? or isn't it possible to get it cheaper than on ebay? i would like to use a 4x20. there are also 4x27 on ebay ... i think they are from pollin. but they are to big to fit in my box

You can get most LCDs on Ebay. Just wait some time.

But getting cheap LCDs isn´t that much fun anyhow. The cheaper a LCD is the crappier it is. I got about 10 LCDs on Ebay up to now (including blue/green blacklight, beginning at 2x16 up to 4x20) and the quality of all I got was not so great.

The best readable LCDs are still coming from Displaytech, *I* think. You can get those @ Reichelt at a fair price.

that's not very good news hehe reichelt would be good to order but i'm from austria and the problem is that they have set their order limit to 100 euro for foreign costumers and to this end i can't order because i don't need so much things. as i ordered my parts for the box i already included the lcd in my order but it seems that they didn't have it in stock because i didn't get one. so i think the only way to get a cheap display is ebay. i also found one which is from chrystalfontz which seems to be ok too.

i also found a company in china which sends up to 2 character lcd samples for free. but the bad thing about it is that you have to pay the shipping fees and they are really expensive

it's a little bit crappy to use the box without a lcd because i don't really know how to use the bankstick without seeing what i'm doing.
