JE5 Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Hi, I'm new here if you hadn't guessed that already!I've decided I'm going to build the SEQ V.2 and i've orderd my boards and PICs after spend many hours last night reading this forum and info on MIDIboxes. It's just the thing I'm looking for as I am building up my gear again so I can play out live just like in the old days :) I've just bought an MPC 1000 too.Just a few quick questions though, can you make the sequences run backwards and the shorten the length of sequences? (ie, change form 16 steps to 12) It's just that we used to have one of those LAtronic Notrons in our studio and I miss it so much that it drew me to building this project. I obviously don't expect it to be the same but I thought i'd ask anyway. ;) Quote
JE5 Posted September 30, 2004 Author Report Posted September 30, 2004 Actually, I just read the specs again and it seems it does more then the Notron! I was extremely tired last night so i'll read through everything again... ::) Quote
Sephult Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 HelloI know there are severaly play modes such as Forward, Reverse, and Ping-Pong.As for the 12 step, I am unsure, but I believe you could program some things to allow you to. There are clock dividers however....If you have any questions just ask, I myself will probably be venturing a new Seq soon, maybe I can help make that 12 step possible.Well brain needs coffee, morning coffee .............zzzzlater-Sephult Quote
goyousalukis Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 From the SEQ Page:available length for every track: 1-16 I don't know if it allows you to put 12 against 16.Justin Quote
JE5 Posted October 1, 2004 Author Report Posted October 1, 2004 I just used the 1-12 as an example, I used the track length feature quite a lot when I had the Notron. Using 2 tracks set on the same midi channel set at different track lengths (say track 1 = 1-6 and track 2 = 1-13) playing through a monosynth yields some very interesting loops that constantly evolve over a length of time.It doesn't matter too much if it doesn't, I'm still going to build it ;D Quote
Sephult Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Yeah it seems it is possible to do what you want.Especially if it states that "every track" 1-16 in length. Sounds to me like you could set one at 12 and another for a different length. I was wanting to ask that question myself.I understand what your are trying to achieve, you want to make the sound like you said "evolve" so that every bar etc.. . is different until the two tracks add up and start the process over again. That method always reminds me of Meshuggah, they all play in different time signatures, sounds real crazy, then after a certain time they all the sudden seem to sync right back up. Quote
JE5 Posted October 1, 2004 Author Report Posted October 1, 2004 Yeah that's exactly what I mean 8)By the way, do you have any examples of track by Meshuggah that do that? it sounds really interesting! thanks. Quote
moebius Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Meshuggah, your typical technical metal stuff.. (these guys would play progressive rock, but ain't skilled enough :p)Hardfloor - Hardtrance acperienceFreaking 303's in 4/4 and 3/4 beating against each other.. 126BPM I recall. Still f*cking amazing.. And that breakdown.Bye, Moebius Quote
Sephult Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 I didn't expect to get much applause for meshuggah, I still don't agree that they aren't skilled enough. It's alot easier to setup machines to play different time signatures, than to play an instrument live and keep the time. But hey! They are a prime example of what is being sought after, (multiple time signatures) and that was my main point.I do have to say they are definitely an acquired taste. Quote
mr_chombee Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 hey JE:5, just found that post and thought I say hello. how's the progress of your box?btw, I'm new here as well, so hello everyone! I started to build one of these old midiboxes a few years ago, but never finished it due to a lack of time. but I still have all the parts so I'll give it another chance. the mbhp concept is awesome! it makes it so much easier. most of my modules are already soldered...hope I can go for a test run next week.cheers! JE5 Posted October 19, 2004 Author Report Posted October 19, 2004 Hi mr_chombee ;) I've only just finished one DIN board but I'm getting quicker by the minute now that i'm getting into soldering again. I've not soldered boards for years since I was at college. I reckon I'll have all the boards soldered up by the end of the week. ;D Quote
