iceberg Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I didnt see any place more appropriate to post this. I noticed several people using spray paint from a can to add color to their cases. This is fine and most of the time works great. However, there is a better way. If you have access to an electrostatic paint booth more power to you, but anyone who has done PC case mods is well aware of the extensive process. Most of us have moved to using Createx Auto Air paints. These paints are designed for rugged use on cars. You can learn more about the process and what colors they offer here: http://www.dixieart.com/CreatexAutoAir.htmlOnce you have all your paint on except for the clear coat layers, follow Dr Steven Thomas' excelant instructions for laying out the text and design for the panel lables at: http://monopole.ph.qmw.ac.uk/~thomas/synthdiy/frontpanel.htmOnce you have that done you can add your clear coat layers and everythign is nice and protected. Many cars now will have 2-3 layers of clear so that should a scracht happen you can buff it out of the clear and it never reaches the colored surface. This should give your pannels a nice look. With the colors offered by Createx and their tutorials you should be able to come up with some amazing stuff. Quote
Sephult Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Great info! I am always happy to see more techniques for applying graphics and lettering. I am completely new to this sort of thing. I always enjoyed Stevens case, I love his backpanel graphic for the TB by the way ;D Quote
iceberg Posted October 12, 2004 Author Report Posted October 12, 2004 Glad to be of help or whatever. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. I learned how to do this because I have a friend that does custom paint jobs on cars. They use paint that is way more expensive but for these applications I dont think you need paint that coast nearly a grand for a quart. If you use the semi opaqe paint you can get that chameleon look you see on cars where the paing seems to change color as you change viewing angles. This has to do with the reflection of 2 or more wavelenths of light because of interferance. Technical stuff aside, it plain looks cool. Quote
SexyBeast Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 Hi,yeah I got a question though it may be different from what you expected to be asked... ;-)The Laztertran stuff sounds very interesting to me and I'd love to try it, but seemingly they are not shipping to europe (only UK). What can be done about it? Is there anybody in the UK (or somewhere they ship to) who would serve as a kind of "relay station", ordering stuff for me and sending it to germany?Perhaps if more people are interested we could do some kind of joint order? Hasn't this be done with encoders some month ago?regards, tom Quote
moebius Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 ...but seemingly they are not shipping to europe (only UK). What can be done about it?They do ship to Europe, Quote:"For address outside the UK but within Europe please add £1 per pack for extra airmail costs." from http://www.lazertran.com/orderuk.htmThe real problem lies in the payment, as brits are not a euro country :/ - Payment probably has to be in GBPs. And for those like me, not having a credit card, a very expensive bank cheque is the only option. So I would be very interested, if somebody on the euro zone would be kind enough to arrange a bulk order.Bye, Moebius Quote
