I bought a LVDS flat panel with CRT-converter and inverter. I think they were thought to fit into laptops (exept of the converter).

Could it be a problem, when I mount the inverter in the housing right behind the flat panel (like disturbing the picture)? Is it more clever to mount it at the base?

This isn't CRT ;D, no problems with picture whatsoever ;)

Well, a friend of mine is working on his own DIY converter - his display is from an old laptop, and guess what, inverter is actually attached to the backside of the display.
