eptheca Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 Hi, Does anybody know what type of MIDI file is exported with the SEQ V4? I am trying to create a MIDI file with separate MIDI note, velocity and channel for multiple tracks. My DAW, Ableton Live, can only export MIDI type 0, with all MIDI information on one track and everything on MIDI channel 1 Can SEQ V4 export MIDI file type 1, with multiple channels? Does anybody know of a DAW of MIDI file editor that can merge MIDI files, and keep their individual MIDI channel? I really appreciate any tips on this :) Cheers, Hal Quote
jjonas Posted November 23, 2024 Report Posted November 23, 2024 (edited) Hi, I cannot answer all of your questions, but there's a free program called MidiEditor (Linux or Windows) that you can use to "merge" tracks from separate midi files. I use quotes because there's no "Merge" command per se that automates the process for you, but what you can do is open a midi file, select "Edit -> Select all events from channel/track", then "Copy events", then open another midi file and select "Edit -> Paste to channel/track". You probably have to familiarise yourself with MidiEditor's usage of "Channel" and "Track", I personally haven't done it yet well enough so that I could explain it confidently, sorry about that. I also haven't look into all the details of the program, but what I have done is select all the events on a channel and change them to listen to some other channel. I've also done this with files exported from Ardour, to set the tempo of the file (Ardour doesn't support exporting tempo at the moment.) UPDATE: TiMidity++ (a command line midi player) tells me that a MBSEQ4 exported midi file is "format: 1". MidiEditor crashes when trying to open it, though Ardour midi import works ok. eptheca Posted November 27, 2024 Author Report Posted November 27, 2024 Hi, Thanks for the info. I had checked out MidiEditor before, but not found a way to merge files. I was thinking that I maybe could use the SEQ V4 to record from Ableton to create a Type 1 MIDI file. I have also read somewhere that Logic on Mac and Cubase can export Type 1 files. I have now checked out MidiEditor again, and found a way to copy MIDI notes and values and put them on different channels like you suggested and save with MIDI info on separate channels (Type 1) Thanks again Cheers, Hal Quote
