Guest Quenzer
found a very nice large display at http://www.allelectronics.com ...$18.50 each (not bad methinks - price must b wrong ! ;)and with a viewing area of 5" x 2.75" it should be great for visability, no squinting :)http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=365&item=LCD-58&type=storeHyundai # HG25504NG-01. 5.8" x 4.58" graphic display module with SED1330F onboard controller. Viewing area is 5" x 2.75". STN gray positive type display. 5 Vdc logic. 18 Vdc LCD voltage. 256 X 128 pixelsCAT# LCD-58Might this be a possable option for those of us who want to go large ? :)..if so ill put mine on order asap; will wait until the project a fermented abit before building my box tho :)-----------addition:----------- btw ...found a nice pic of this lcd up and running on this site (space invaders an' all!):http://www.ccantrell.com/LCDGUI.html also whilst im adding to this; here's the manifs data sheet for the display:http://www.allelectronics.com/spec/LCD-58.pdf

TK.
Hi Quenzer, the data bus is a little bit different and the display requires an additional negative voltage, so that a small DC converter circuit has to be built which shifts the voltage level to -25V. However, it isn't impossible to adapt this really cheap LCD to the MBLC, but the driver will be different. If there is nobody with programming skills who would like to buy this LCD and would write the driver, just send it to me and I will do it --- normaly this can be done within a hour...Best Regards, Thorsten.P.S.: a Space Invaders PlugIn for MIDIbox NG would be a cool idea ;-)
Guest Quenzer
Kewl ! :))Will be ordering afew of those displays anyways ...will b indispensable. my field of 'expertese' is audio engineering (in particular speaker design) & wood/metalwork ...just brushed off the hobby of working with electronics at the base level again after quite some time. Of which this site has been a great insipration; hope to build a box or two ..however building speakers & amps is taking priority atm.If no one else puts this display module to use in the MB before i get round to it; Ill have good crack at getting the eletrical side of it sorted. However even though i do have a little experiance programming here and there ..im not totally sure im the 'best' person to implement the driver side to use this screen. So if someone else would be able to do this itd be appreciated :-)
Guest Quenzer
Another thing whilst i remember; With the screen having twice the vertical pixels compared to the screen used in the project. How about having a additional display mode, as below:High Visability (standard ?):One where things for a standard screenful are scaled up to be higly visable.More Information:Whereby if there are normally afew 'page layers' to the one displayed; That two of those pages are displayed at once :) ..making more information available. Also as a note re this screen, with it appearing not to be backlit; will be figureing out how to 'optimally' illuminate it with a bezel attachment containing leds (green) to permit usage in low light levels {and cos it looks kewl too ;)} ...will post the details of this when the project is in progress. This could also be adapted easily for any other non backlit screen too :)Annnd another request re screen dimensioning.Noting that this screen isnt the exact same number of pixels wide as the main one; reminded me that the four line display modes for the standard midibox firmwares doesnt use the far right two chars ...if these are left blank atm, how about moving the entire text block across one char so that the text display is central ? :) tyz for now :)
Guest Quenzer
Just had a closer look at the user comments on alltronics site re the HG25504 ...found a url there to someones site where they had built a project incorperating the display - the circuit diagram on the site shows a possable solution to powering the display:The site:http://gemini.tntech.edu/~dlh5678/intelliterm.htmlThe diagram:http://gemini.tntech.edu/~dlh5678/term.pdf...also heres summore pritty pictures of it up and running (other site is down !): http://www.compsys1.com/workbench/Benchware/SED1330/sed1330.html
Guest damien
Ok that's great This is a big tweak for the midibox project.I'm really looking forward to buying such a display.Have you any idea about the time a prog could lasts to drive this lcd?Best regards
TK.
Great, so everything has been solved! If Quenzer sends me a display, the driver will be part of the upcoming MIOS (MIDIbox Operating System) :)Best Regards, Thorsten.
