smd sockets?

SMD sockets? Kinda defeats some of the purpose really...  :)

I've never really seen them used and had some time in board manufacture with loads of SMD projects....the only SMD style sockets I can remember using were on larger programmable PLCC style chips.

Hmmm.... good luck with your search. Try here:  http://www.globalsources.com/manufacturers/SMD-Socket.html

I sort of agree with Jimi.

There are PLCC sockets, but I haven't seen any for SOICs. Some "programming sockets" are available, but those are probably very expensive. Anyway, adapter PCBs for SMD components are made, that have DIP pins.. Can't remember the "cheap source" for those, at the moment.
