cyphunk
On the smashtv order page they say that order for the core and other modules will be back ordered as their are Design revisions in progress. Curious about A: if the revisions are important enough to hold off on purchasing until they are ready and B: when they might be readyanyone know? moebius
Hi.I can´t speak on behalf of SmashTV and I hope I´m not revealing anything considered a secret ;DHe´ll come by and give the full details.I had the possibility to see a preview picture from a new generation board and talk to the man himself (on IRC).First of all, these new boards do exactly the same as old boards. These are design revisions. But If I understood correctly, the new boards:A. Are Double Sided with plated thru holesB. Board interconnections are re-arranged to make "one to one" connections possible for SID module.C. Will comply with RoHS specificationsMoebius
sonicwarrior
C. Will comply with RoHS specificationsIs that really good news?Rumours at the synth-diy list say that RoHS compliant PCBs are worse, e.g. you have so solder them within 1 year (if I understood that correctly). moebius
Is that really good news?Yes and no. ;D It´s simply a necessity that even small business need to comply with. Call it a progression.Rumours at the synth-diy list say that RoHS compliant PCBs are worse, e.g. you have so solder them within 1 year (if I understood that correctly).I´ve seen that discussion and talked with Smash about it. He wasn´t that worried. As I can see, hobbyists can still buy leaded solder after 1st of July - I won´t be switching from 60/40 rosin core any time soon. (I´m trying to say, non-leaded processes are compatible with leaded solder. A Good Solder with Flux will help to achive good results)Moebius
