hi,

I'm preparing to build  Sid-Midibox...

So I bought 3 old C64s and ripped out the sid chips...

But they're all are labled different....

the first:      MOS  -  6581  -  1984

the second: MOS - 6581 CBM - 4383

the third:     MOS   -  6581 R3   -  0686

so of course now I have to know what are the differences and which one has the best sound...

I hope you can help me.....

cheers,

Matthias

I'm pretty sure the last 4 #'s are batch numbers... The suffix is probably just die revisions - You may want to wait for a second opinion on this just to be sure tho...

Hi

Out of the 13 SIDS I have demolished I have all sorts of

dates and manufacturers.

I stuffed them one by one into the socket and listened.

Thing is these littles beauties seem to all have a different sound. :o

At the end of the day they all worked ok except for a couple which were no go's.

Regards

I will start a new one when the SID control is launched.

You know I plugged a 8580 in my one by mistake.

Quite different to hear.

Only realised after I unplgged it that it was a 8580. :-[

Lucky I did'nt fry it at 12v. :P

I had my kids getting them out the old boards and did'nt check :o

I also saved those long DIL sockets from the keyboard with all the connections ready made. i have cut them down for other projects like the flooboard thingy.

Ian ;D
