Bankstick gets formatted on every startup

Hi erverybody!

I have got a problem with my Bankstick:

every time i start my sid it starts formatting my bankstick :( and i can't upload any patch

I have connected 8 banksticks. also a test with only one doesn't help.

There is one strange thing: it starts formatting always with patch B then C, D ...and patch A at last.

Is this normal?

edit: do i have to put an chip an every socket? or can i leave some out?

Hi,

yes the order is correct, but of course it's not ok that the BankSticks are reformatted on every restart.

Two questions for my own understanding: is your MIDIbox running with MIOS V1.8? (it provides the important brown-out reset fix) - and how does your MIDIbox behave if only one BankStick is connected? At how many BankSticks do you notice the problem?

Best Regards, Thorsten.

Are you able to write anything into a BankStick? If not, two or more connections of your BankStick board might be swapped.

What happens, if a single BankStick is connected -> directly <- to the core module (not using a special board, but maybe only a socket with some wires going to J4)

Best Regards, Thorsten.

solder solder solder......

Power on, Formatting (now starting at patch A), power off, power on AND no formatting anymore!  ;D

Upload patches.... HURRRAY! Works!

To the 8 bankstick problem:

I soldered some wires "in Reihe" and not "parallel" to save solder time can this cause problems?  thx BpM

Morning!

I have worked on my sid the hole night and a friend was helping me...

He soldered the bankstick modul again for me bacause he is much better in soldering,

but it is still the same when i try to use  1 or more bankstick  :-[

The connections are exactly like at your picture TK.    bpm

Thats really strange, I know that the schematic is correct (e.g. because Mike made a PCB based on this schematic, and it works fine). Concerning serial/parallel connections: the SDA and SCL pins have to be connected together, I guess that this is still the case on your module? You should be able to disconnect a wire in the chain in order to check, which one is causing the problem?

Best Regards, Thorsten.

Hi TK!

You should be able to disconnect a wire in the chain in order to check, which one is causing the problem?

Uff! No. As i said a friend soldered it on a "streifenrasterplatine" with many many bridges.

And i allways said to my friend: "dont solder them all, let's check it before"

but he: "no, no. it WILL work"  ::)

But a (real) bankstick pcb seems to be a good idea. Instead of checking and testing wires (and getting wired)

i try to make a schematic with eagle and etch me a pcb  :P

ok thanks for ur help (and all this crazy MidiBox tools)  BpM
