modulation matrix is not working

I've just finished the step C control panel. Everything is fine except the modulation matrix :-[

Neither the leds are lighting nor the buttons changing anything.

Is there anything to do to activate the matrix ?

no, the matrix is enabled by default.

Have you already tried the mbsid_led_matrix_test?
