Dr.Wily Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 OPL3 is a great FM based chip. But since Windows 98, generic driver who manage OPL3 use a crap patch for generating sound. If my memories serve me, Windows 3.1 use an alternate driver for managing OPL3. The driver is called "Voyetra Super Sapi FM driver" and deliver very good FM sound (in particular for percutions, bass sounds and layers). How then I use Voyetra patch uder Windows XP or 2k ? I would like to understand how OPL3's driver work in newer Windows versions. Can you help me ? Quote
fluke Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 It's probably not possible, the driver API changed many times between Windows 3.1 and XP. Give it a go though and see what happens. What i have been thinking of is to use DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/) to play games with good patch sets, dump the OPL3 data and extract the patches from that. You should be able to get Windows 3.1 to run under DOSBox. Quote
Dr.Wily Posted May 7, 2007 Author Report Posted May 7, 2007 Hum... But how change OPL3 soundbank under Windows ? Quote
stryd_one Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Hope it's OK that I moved this... Seeing as it's not an MBFM-specific question maybe you'll get more answers here. Quote
DragonMaster Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 There's a driver on the MIDI-OX website to use custom sounds with an OPL2 / OPL3. They even have a compatible DOS sound editor. Quote
