MidiBox 64 (pic incl.) DIN problem...help!!!

Hi to all and thanx for this great project!

Yesterday after 2 months of work i've connected the power supply to my midibox and i'm so happy that the pots work!!!

The latency is uncomparable to other midi ctrls, the mb simply rocks!!!

The only problem that i've is with the DIN buttons.

My midibox have 64 pots (works all), 64 buttons (here are problems) and 64 leds (at moment DOUT disconnected to find DIN problems).

Here's the DIN problem:

A single 74HC165N handle 8 buttons, when i press the first 4 buttons (one per time obviously) on the display i've this

Butt1: *0000000

Butt2: 0*000000

Butt3: 00*00000

Butt4: 000*0000

On the remaing four (ever one per time!!):

Butt5: 0000****

Butt6: 0000****

Butt7: 0000****

Butt8: 0000****

Before the disconnecting of the DOUT (leds) i've checked that 4 leds per time with a single button press (from butt5 to butt8) were on.

I've checked that on the circuit nothing is in short...i've yet desoldered and resoldered the DIN in the afternoon..and nothing changed..

What can be???

Maybe something with parameters configuring or...

let me know!!!

I'm sorry Tim, what you mean for backwards??? (my english is schoolastic!!)

Burned?? Not working???

ummm, installed the wrong way....There is a dot on the pin 1 end of the resistor pack.

Let me mash two images from the datasheet into this:

6pinSILres.gif

The strange thing is that all 8 registers for the 64 buttons have the same problem, first 4 butt works, the other 4 trig every one all the remaining 4.
It's exactly this that makes me ask about the resistor pack orientation.....are the packs on one side of the board reversed?

Hoping it's an easy fix.....  :)

I think that the problem is found, could be the upper sil packages installed in reverse, because if the sil point one reported by you is the correspondant number one here:

DIN_R3qv.gif

i've installed the upper sil in reverse for the two DIN modules.

I will try tomorrow,

thank you for the help, never thinked about the verse of the sil...i hope that this thing fix the problem!!!
