Non-Board based parts question (knobs posts leds)

Okay, I have a bunch of questions, I'm trying to figure out getting the controllers parts, mostly for a SEQ right now.

LEDs

Is there any reason to get a 3 lead, 2 color LED? It seems like that might come in handy a great deal for the sequencer grid. If this is a useful thing, does anyone know of a good LED on mouser than does two colors? I searched quite a bit but it's really obvious I missed a lot of choices.

ENCODERS

Non-Detented/Detented? Can someone point me in the direction of what that means. Also, should my encoder have a push button, is there any actual use within the hardware? What type of data is it (2 bit grey code or 2 bit quadrature code????).

KNOBS

Do they have good knobs on Mouser? I don't need anything fancy, mostly cheap. Does anyone know of a cheap knob I might get. I'd pay more if it is a nice knob, but I'm not going all out for sake of them.

BUTTONS

I'd like illuninated buttons for the sequencer grid, but it looks tricky. Where can I find the buttons like the link below at Mouser?

Sometimes it's really hard to pare down a query on Mouser, and I just hope that somoene else already put the work in! (sorry!)

Any help would be appreciated.

for the LEDs, search for "RGB LED", you can also use standart LED for the step led matrix..

for the SEQ you need DETENDED encoders...you don't need the push-button, but if your encoder get ones, you can wire them to the "fast" function, don't use the butons of encoder as GP buton (step butons 1-16), as TK said somewhere here, that could lead to problem when editing (unwanted turn of the encoder when you press the switch)

Knob:

at mouser search for REAN, it's a knob manufacturer available at mouser, then you will find all other brand near.. In Europ, Albs is another knob manufacturer, but they don't sell quantity less than 100 and it's not cheap (about 0.8 Euro/knob for 100 part)

Butons:

those from this link are diy butons with micro-switch beside, the way they are done is explained in the thread ;) . for micro-switch, you will find them cheaper on Ebay (for the LED too..)

yes it's easier to use the paper catalog, you will received one one time you order something, but maybe you can ask them one before ordering..

1) What is the "FAST" function?

2) Well, I understand that the button did not come exactly like that when ordered, but I do need the PCB mountable buttons with the extra long rod to make it don't I? That's all I really meant.

3) It doesn't really seem that much cheaper off ebay as far as I've seen. Some places offer good prices for Leds, but it's even hard to find good ones. I haven't checked for buttons though. Any search-word recommendations?

in the SEQ, that allow you to tweak a parameter faster when turning an encoder
