FLD Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 I've decided to build one of those MIDIBox SID thingys since its documented so good and the modular design makes it a very nice project. I still have some questions that i am unsure and i´d like to be sure, before i start :p1. Where do i get SID chip(s)? I dont have any old C64's and buying those rare old machines costs a fortune? Is there someone selling SID Chips?2. What is the difference when you have 1 SID chip and 4 SID chips and how bout 2 and 3? How many should i have?3. Can i have the Complete Control Surface with only 1 SID chip?4. Internet site in Germany that sells electronic parts Quote
Flying Panther Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 1. Where do i get SID chip(s)? I dont have any old C64's and buying those rare old machines costs a fortune? Is there someone selling SID Chips? As far as I know there aren't stores who sell SID chips, since they have been out of production for a long time. I think you'll have to search on the internet (for example ebay) and buy either the chips or complete C64. Shouldn't be too expensive. You can also check flea-markets for old C64's.2. What is the difference when you have 1 SID chip and 4 SID chips and how bout 2 and 3? How many should i have? The diffrence is how many diffrent 'parts' the MBox can play at the same time. Also, since the SID chip delivers a mono-sound, you can pair two SID's in order to achieve stereo-sound.How many SID's you want is up to you.3. Can i have the Complete Control Surface with only 1 SID chip?Yes4. Internet site in Germany that sells electronic partsUhm, maybe reichelt.de or conrad.de?Hope this will help you a bit! :) Quote
FLD Posted March 7, 2007 Author Report Posted March 7, 2007 Thanks! I think for starters im gonna get one C64 and build Core And SID Modules so i can play sid music trought it. After that i can build more stuff, like Control units and maybe add more SID:s if necessaryI love modular design! ;) Quote
