16 channels mute buttons strip

Hi all,

i am new here.

I registered cause i need some advice.

After many years with different sequencers of all kinds and variations,

i want to buy and try the QY700 from Yamaha, (i have had the Rm1x & RS7000),

but the QY700 in my opinion exceeds the latter two designs, in functionality and features,

except that it has not dedicated mute buttons for the midi-channels.

Now my question for the DIY freaks around here:

Is it possible to make a strip with 16 good durable buttons, that will survive long time use,

in all conditions, that wouldbe hooked up between the QY700 midi-out and a external sound-module,

and function as a mute button to mute the midi signal going out on each of the seperate channels

at any time choosen by pressing the buttons of course.

this lets say "mute-buttons-strip" should also be able to send the correct note-off instruction ( i guess),

so that when a channel is muted it won't cause a note to keep hanging on the external sound module.

Is this possible people?

Any help in the right direction is very much appreciated.

I don't own the QY700 yet, i need to know if this idea is able to work, and to be designed before i go try to find

a QY700, cause this sequencers are rare to come by these days.

thanks for your time.

and excuse me if this is posted in the wrong section.

Gday nrg, welcome aboard.

You could easily make a midibox that could either filter out the midi messages on certain channels, or send sysex to the QY700 to mute it internally if that's possible.

Regarding note-off messages, you just program a buffer that will hold the sent note number(s), and send the appropriate note off(s) when you push the button.

Hope that helps!
