Echopraxia
I am using a 40 watt iron and of course it was after the fact that I read about only using 30 watts or lower. Am I damaging anything on the pcbs? On some of my resistors the solder has gone through the hole and out the top side of the pcb and made a "bubble" of solder on the top side of pcb. Is this normal when using thin .15 solder? These are my only concerns otherwise the 40 watt iron has been working out pretty good. Its just resistors that its happening on. only just a couple anyways. Any help would be appreciated.
i45one
If you are using pre-made PCB's, then solder flowing through the top surface is normal. As for that 40 watt iron, that is a bit hefty for board work. If you are very careful, it will work. But you have to be super careful not to overheat the joint, as doing so will lift PCB pads and possibly damage the component. Good luck :-)
